Surf Life Saving Victoria

On Wednesday (March 29th)  Mr. Claude from Surf Life Saving Victoria followed up on our visit to the pool with another informative session at school.

A few topics covered were: water safety, how to identify and navigate rips, CPR, and rescue devices. Students also learnt about the different types and colours of flags, and what they meant.

Gimmel students Micah Scholar and Clark Jackson got in on the action! They had the privilege to dress up as lifesavers and demonstrated how to rescue swimmers with the yellow Rescue Tube.

A great effort to both Lucie H and Lucy T for demonstrating how to perform CPR and the recovery position

Here is what student Nia Joseph, had to say about the program:

"On Wednesday, we had the same lifeguard come to Mildura Christian College. In the morning we got to go inside the hall and he taught us some other things.

First, we got to see this little octopus in a glass and it was actually a poisonous one. We were also learning about the safety of going to lakes and rivers and how to be careful. You can get many bites like octopus bites, snake bites, and jellyfish stings.

After that, Lucy T and Lucie H volunteered to help with first aid. Lucy T pretended to be unconscious. Clark and Micah were dressed as lifeguards with strange hats.

We got to finish up with a fun photo, some people held the flags and some people had hats on their heads."
