Year 8 Attunga Camp Update

Year 8 Attunga Camp

Year 8 kicked off Term 2 with a two night (three day) adventure camp to an amazing place called Attunga. Attunga Youth Ministries campsite is situated at a remote property on the edge of a spectacular canyon, in a place appropriately named Canyonleigh (Canyonleigh is about twenty minutes west of Moss Vale and a two hour drive from Nowra).

It was an excellent way for students to spend the first three days of Term 2; building relationships, challenging themselves to try new things and enjoying God's creation. One of the Attunga staff members, Josh, shared the story of how he came to follow Jesus while students enjoyed making s'mores around the campfire on their first night.

After a long bus trip to get there, students stretched their legs with a hike to the top of Mount Penang for some stunning views over the valley. A range of exciting activities were to follow including horse riding, archery, raft building and a heart stopping giant swing! The second night featured a walk to another incredible lookout to watch the sunset, followed by dinner back at camp and a hotly contested game of Pictionary crossed with spotlight!

We were thoroughly impressed with the way students conducted themselves on camp. Attunga staff claimed that we were their favourite group this year and wished we were coming back next week. I think we all wished the same thing!

I really enjoyed the giant swing because it pushed me out of my comfort zone. (Emily W)

I loved horse riding, even though the horse was a bit disobedient, haha. (Leah M)

One of my favourite activities at Attunga was the giant swing over a cliff. Although the pain was bad it was worth it. You would be pulled up about 17 metres along a pole. At the top of the pole, it felt like you were high in the clouds. You would count down from three and pull the blue rope to drop down and over the cliff. You looked like a ragdoll in the free fall. You could swing upside down like Spiderman. It relieved the pain of the harness for a little! (Grace M)

My favourite part of camp at Attunga was the giant swing over the canyon. Despite it being quite painful, it was very thrilling as your classmates pulled you up (17m) then you pulled a string and dropped like a rag doll. It was heaps of fun to see everyone give it a go. It was so much fun and I would definitely do it again! (Miriam D)

The horse riding was so fun and the giant swing and the bonfire. It was like the best camp ever. (Tanayah C)

I liked how I did things that were out of my comfort zone and they encouraged me to try new things. The food was also really good. (Lila S)I enjoyed everything. It was all incredible thanks to fun activities and great staff. If I had to pick a favourite activity, it would be either horse riding or the big swing. (Myles C)
