Community Service
“Community service provides opportunities for young people to develop the values, skills and understandings needed to contribute to civic well being.”
Year 10 have been involved in a Community Service Program this term.
The vision of the Community Service Program is to try and break down some barriers while encouraging acceptance and tolerance through a range of activities that will provide enjoyment for all participating students and community members. It is hoped that students will further develop respect for those who provide services to cater for the various needs of all members of our community as well as garner a sense of responsibility and willingness to contribute to the upkeep and continuance of these services.
Community Service activities include:
• Irvin house and Ottrey Lodge where students have had interaction with residents while participating in activities such as games, art and puzzles.
• Providing All Living Supports (PALS) Inc where students have been involved in a range of activities such as Craftwork, Yoga and Meditation and Woodwork.
• Cobram & District Specialist School where they have read to and listened to students from CDSS.
• PALS Op Shop Cobram and St Margarets Anglican Church Cobram Op Shop where students worked with those who run these shops and help sort clothing and goods.
• St Margaret’s Food Bank where they prepared food hampers for the needy in the Cobram area.
Students have found this to be most rewarding which has been obvious by their enthusiasm and participation.
R U OK? Day
Thanks to all students & staff who wore their splash of yellow and orange on Thursday 12th September.
This is a really important message; so be sure to ask the questions to someone who you think might need it, or knowing that asking for help yourself IS OK too!
Starting an R U OK? conversation? Use these four steps:
1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in
