The Talk Around ... TPS

School Closures

At the time of writing, no government school is currently closed or in the process of being closed. The school will be informed directly if there is any prospect of being closed, either as a stand-alone school closure or as part of a local or area-based closure. The school will then provide families with detailed advice to support you through that process.

Staff have been teaching students about good hygiene practices, in particular hand-washing.  The school has made efforts to secure surplus supplies of soap and appropriate hygiene products.

Based on the most recent advice, here are some additional precautions that our school will be taking over the next weeks.

  • No staff external PDs will be going ahead.
  • School photos have been postponed.
  • All camps and excursions scheduled on or after Tuesday 17 March are postponed and rescheduled, or, if there is no other option, cancelled.
  • The Parents and Friends Hot Cross Bun morning tea has been cancelled.
  • School Council meeting for Wed 18th March is cancelled.
  • Harmony Day activities will be restricted to class room, not as a large group or whole school activity.  Including postponing Zooper Dooper day.
  • Whole-School Assembly is cancelled until further notice.
  • The Kindergarten visits by the school are postponed.

Home Learning Plans

In light of the developing situation in relation to COVID-19 the school has received a number of requests from parents seeking support to continue with their children’s learning from home.

Each year level team is preparing tailored, home learning plans.  These plans will be communicated to families on Wednesday 18th March.

Trafalgar Primary School Parents and Friends Association 2020

Welcome all new and existing families back to school for 2020.

Trafalgar Primary School’s Parents and Friends Association is made up of parents and carers of students attending our school. We aim to contribute to the well-being of the school community, provide parents and carers with an opportunity to get involved and to raise funds for the benefit of our school.

We hold our meetings once a month in the school library. Our next meeting that was scheduled for the 25th of March at 7 pm has been postponed to a date TBA.  At meetings we plan our events/activities and discuss our fundraising goals. We are always excited to have new members and invite anyone who is interested to please come along, find out what it’s about and consider becoming a member.

Parents and Friends are excited to announce that we will be running the following events in 2020:

Term 1:

School Athletics Pizza Roll Lunch

Zooper Doopers for Harmony Day - postponed

Easter Raffle

Festival on the Lawn (School event to showcase our children’s Musical Futures program)

Christmas Cake/Tart Drive

Thanks to the support of the school community, Parents and Friends were able to purchase and install new football goalposts on the oval last year. Unfortunately, during festival on the lawn, one of the goal posts was broken. We are pleased to announce the replacement goal post has arrived at school and is awaiting installation.

At our last meeting we agreed to purchase two air-conditioners. These are going to be installed in classrooms P5 and P6 where they are needed and will ensure a comfortable learning environment for all the students.

If you have any ideas for Parents and Friends in 2020 or would like to be involved, you are always welcome to attend our meetings.  If you would like more information, please contact the office and they can put you in touch with a Parents and Friends member.

Thank-you for your on-going support,

Parents and Friends Association 2020

Year 2 Holden Museum

On Wednesday 4th March, the Year 2 students went on a community walk to the Holden Museum.  On arrival they were greeted by 2 amazing tour guides, Bob and Jake.  Inside the museum students learnt amazing facts about the history of this car company and discovered that Holden originally made carriages and saddles. Students were able to see the first models of Holden cars all lined up in chronological order, along with racing cars driven by Peter Brock, an ambulance and even a hearse complete with a skeleton driver!

Clean Up Australia Day

Friday 6th March saw the students at Trafalgar Primary do their bit for Clean Up Australia Day. It was fantastic to see so many kids participating in such a great cause!

Collingwood Football Club visit

On Tuesday 10th March, students were involved in a “meet and greet” with some AFL players of the Collingwood Football Club. They were given the opportunity to ask questions and take photos and also get some signatures. Teachers and students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and a great time was had by all.
