CULTURE CAPTAINS

Murray Culture Captains

I, Kiyara Abeyarathna and Tashi Skillern-Brown are your Murray Cultural Captain and Vice-Captain for 2020. From the start of the year, Tashi and I have been working hard along with Ms. McWaters and Ms. Bradsworth to bring together the choir in the short 4 weeks. The song we have chosen for our choir is Can you feel the love tonight by Elton John and our soloist Darcy Vissenjoux shall be signing Footloose by Kenny Loggins accompanied by the choir. It has been a fun journey so far with the choir being so enthusiastic about signing.

With Chorals creeping up around the corner, I looked forward to seeing the final performance of the Murray house choir. Everyone has shown a lot of dedication, support, and encouragement by giving up 3 out of 5 lunchtimes a week and coming for most practices. We have been making great progress over the past few weeks and look forward to performing our finalise product for you all. I hope the choir enjoys the night as I know I will because they all deserve to win and have a lot of fun.

Grant Cultural Captains

I’m Emma Dowsing, the Grant Cultural captain for 2020 alongside Vice Captain Tash Morris. We are super excited for this year’s chorals performance as the theme is Movies! As Grant were champions from last year, we are motivated to be even more amazing this year. Our songs are definitely crowd favourites, singing ‘Breaking free’ from High School Musical as our group song and ‘How far I’ll go’ from Moana, sung by our soloist Olivia Mansfield. Many Grant members as well as our very encouraging teachers t is Mr Naef and Mr Bailes who have been giving up their lunchtimes to practise the songs and we have been making great progress each session. The night is going to be amazing as the hard work pays off and all the lovely voices of Brighton secondary comes together on one wonderful night.

Lonsdale Cultural Captains

I’m Ayden Boztepe, one of your Lonsdale Cultural Captains for this year. I think we can all agree that it’s been far too long since Lonsdale house has won Chorals and as such I’m proud to announce that this year may just be our grand comeback! Over the last few weeks Lonsdale students have been coming down to P1 classroom at lunchtimes to rehearse our selected songs. Led by our fabulous conductor and other cultural captain, Cassidy Jensen-Muir, the choir is sounding amazing.

This year’s theme of ‘movies’ has gotten Lonsdale Choir more excited than ever. Our main choir song is the insidiously catchy ‘Hooked on a Feeling’ from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, and our soloist song is ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ from the Wizard of Oz. We’re delighted to announce Hannah Fridman as our fantastic soloist who will lead the choir for this second song.

I’m incredibly proud of the effort that students and staff alike have been putting in!

Hope to see you all there for the big night!

Phillip Cultural Captains

Phillip has been working hard to prepare a wonderful performance for everyone this year! With our crowd pleaser  “Don’t You Forget About Me” and our soloist song “I See the Light”, sung by the incredible Jessie Tranter, we hope to dazzle you with our pieces. Chloe and I are having a great time leading our choir at lunchtimes along with the encouragement and support or Miss Danne and Nyssa Bradsworth. We can’t wait for the big night to arrive when all the houses will showcase their talent and work together on our stunning mass choir song “Into the Unknown”. -Issy.”
