Focus on Learning

Year 5 Leadership Day

Student leadership is recognised as an important aspect of childhood development. Allowing students to experience and take a lead in decision making, problem solving and collaborative projects helps them develop skills that will stay with them into adulthood. Last Friday was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 5 students to develop and enhance these skills. A huge thank you to Miss Lowe, Mr Casson and Mr Killeen for organising this excellent day at the Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre. Enjoy our video that captures the great smiles, effective collaboration, relationship building and positive teamwork, that was clearly evident between our wonderful students and teachers.

Year 4 STEAM Challenge

During Science and Technology this term, Year 4 have been focusing on a Unit of Work called 'Food and Fibre'. One of the Investigation tasks was for students to work in groups to create an "Ag-Robot" that needs to transport a chook egg from the chicken coupe to the farmer located at the farmhouse. The Ag-Robot needed to incorporate the use of a Sphero coding device.

The students needed to consider the following design elements in their brief:

* The Ag-Robot needs to be able to hold the egg without dropping it or causing breakage

* The Sphero needs to be coded correctly to transport the egg from a start point to an end point

* The coded path needs to be direct and the Spheros/Ag Robots need to move efficiently

Please watch the video below to see some of the clever designs...
