Doctors in Secondary Schools

Remember our doctor’s room is open every Tuesday from 10am–3pm for secondary students.  Student appointments can be made through staff at the school or by calling the Merbein Family Practice on 03 5025 2511 or students can simply drop into the rooms at recess or lunch on Tuesdays. This is a great service, not just when students are sick but for things like prescriptions, asthma and anaphylaxis plans, catch-up immunisations, mental health and any other issues facing secondary students.  Students will need to give their Medicare Card details to the GP clinic. An easy way to do this is for the student to take a photo of the card on their phone.  Parents do not need to attend appointments with students but are very welcome to come along if the students wish.

Interschool Netball Report

By R. Carmes

On Monday 3rd June, four teams represented our college at Interschool Netball.  The Year 7 team went through undefeated and now they have the opportunity to represent the College at the Loddon Mallee Region carnival in July at Echuca. The Year 8 team had some wins and close losses. The Year 9 and 10 teams played well, winning all but one game each.

The girls should be commended on their sportsmanship and willingness to help each other out. Thanks to Mrs Willison, Lucy and Phoebe for umpiring on the day and assisting in coaching and training.

 By L. Palamara

A great effort from our Year 9-10 girls who travelled to Bendigo last Monday 27th May to compete in the Regional Finals of the Girls Interschool Soccer.  Although they did not win, they played well against the teams.  The girls are also to be congratulated for representing the school extremely well.

Unfortunately the next delivery of the school uniform Arena Jackets has been delayed. The suppliers have promised to get them delivered as soon as possible and the school will inform students as soon as they have arrived. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause for families.

Year 10 Latrobe Uni Visit

By C. Blackie

On Friday 31st May, Year 10 students spent the day at LaTrobe University’s Mildura Campus. Students explored nursing and health sciences, research skills, career planning and creative writing as well as learning more about university entrance pathways.  This was a great follow-up to our visit from Mildura Senior College’s Assistant Principals Andrew Banks and Tracy Marr last Thursday.  Year 10 are now thinking seriously about their future plans and their options for Year 11 and beyond.  We were extremely impressed by the respect Year 10 showed for everyone they met last week and their willingness to ask questions and have a go.

Year 10 Science and Technology Workshops Report

By C. Blackie

On Monday 4th June, thirty Year 10 students returned to LaTrobe University's Mildura Campus to take part in science and technology workshops. Our students examined and evaluated evidence in Forensic Science, constructed crumple zones to reduce acceleration in frontal collisions, learned about the role of biotechnology in agriculture and the science of deception in psychology. And they did an awesome job!  We would like to thank La Trobe University for making these workshops available to Sunraysia students as they prepare for Year 11 and beyond.
