It is hard to imagine that we have almost come to the end of the 2019 school year. This is our second last newsletter and it is filled with a great deal of information, so I ask that you take the time to read carefully through it.

Staff Leaving

Mrs Helen Hardman started at St Anthony’s in 2011 and has been an instrumental figure in the school community. Her leadership qualities have supported the school in many capacities. Both students and staff would like to acknowledge the passion and enthusiasm Helen has brought to her teaching and leadership roles over the years. We have been so fortunate to have Helen in our school community and she will be missed by all. We wish her all the very best in the next chapter of her life and look forward to hearing about her ongoing adventures.
We congratulate Ms Serena Jordan Munro on her new teaching appointment. Serena has worked with our youngest students ensuring that the children’s first year of schooling has been a happy one as they transitioned into school life. Her encouraging nature and positive presence will be greatly missed by all the staff, students and families. On behalf of our school community, I wish Serena all the very best as she settles into her new school.
Ms Estelle Austin has only been part of our school for less than a year, but her work and effort have been felt especially in the Years 5 and 6 levels. Her positive and engaging manner will be greatly missed. We hope that she settles into her new life overseas with ease and wish her all the very best in her future endeavours.

St Aloysius - Caulfield Campus

The community of St Aloysius are starting to prepare for their final weeks of school. The staff, students and families will be filled with mixed emotions as they embark on a new horizon with new beginnings. There will be a number of events planned where they will celebrate and give thanks.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the dedicated staff who remained at the school until the end. Under the leadership of Mrs Deirdre Cosgrave as Head of Campus, they have worked together to ensure that the children had their final year filled with many memories. Mrs Margaret Mitchell, Mr Daniel Podbury and Ms Ida Lantry ensured that the children were kept active and engaged in their learning throughout the year whilst having fun in special day activities.

Ms Liz Kelly- McAllister, Mr Simon Addicoat and Mrs Helen Shen ensured that they shared their expertise in the specialist classes they undertook with the students. Mrs Tracey Birthisel and Ms Luisa Henderson were always by the side of the children supporting them in their classroom activities. Mrs Julie Moir and Mrs Anabel Acosta- Harvey were present in the office with their welcoming faces always there for the students and the parents. Mrs Moir also ensured that the library was always at its best and up to date with resources.

St Anthony’s will be fortunate to have Mrs Tracey Birthisel and Ms Luisa Henderson join the team of Learning Support Officers (LSOs) in 2020.

On behalf of St Anthony’s School, I wish all the community of St Aloysius a warm and memorable last few weeks of school and may their memories be held deep in their hearts.

PFA 2020

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated PFA committee members who gave up so much of their time in support of St Anthony's School and children. Their efforts were evident in the way that the work was shared around and in the positive and smooth running of events and discussion.

In particular, I would like to thank the Co-Presidents, Jane Magree and Emily Williams who continued to carry on the vision of the school, ensuring that the atmosphere and climate was always positive and balanced. Their efforts are greatly appreciated, and I thank them for their dedication and commitment to the PFA during their two-year tenure.

School Advisory Team (SAT)

The AGM for the SAT committee has been postponed to the beginning of the next school year, when the Team will be on a recruiting mission for new members to join. In the interim I would like to thank the committee members for their time, dedication throughout the year and their opinions and recommendations for the good of the school.

Bushfire Appeal

Thank you for your generosity towards the appeal. Our school will be able to donate $330.00 in helping the communities that have been impacted by the fires.

Nativity Play and Carols Night – WEDNESDAY 4 DECEMBER

The children from Foundation class will present their Nativity Play with the support of the students from Year 1-6 who will sing carols throughout the play. You are invited to join in the festivities by coming to school at 6.00pm for a picnic dinner on The Green. Once the play and carols have finished we will move from the church back to The Green for some Christmas songs where the festivities will continue.

End of Year Mass - Friday 13 December 2019

As part of the End of the Year Thanksgiving Mass, families are invited to attend Mass on Friday 13th December at 12.00pm. We will celebrate our achievements for this year and farewell, with a special blessing, all the students, families and staff who will be leaving.

Lantern Liturgy for Year 6 - FRIDAY 13TH DECEMBER 12.45PM

A Lantern Liturgy will be held on Friday 13th December at 12.45pm straight after Mass to celebrate the tradition of passing on the light from Year 6 to Year 5 students. The current leaders will pass on their leadership roles (symbolised by candle light) to the 2020 leaders so that the responsibilities can be continued in our school.

Guard of Honour - FRIDAY 13TH DECEMBER 1.30PM

The tradition of the Guard of Honour will be held at 1.30pm Friday 13th December for Year 6 students, and other children and staff, who are leaving our school. You are all invited to join in this farewell.
