Middle School Report

Middle School in Remote Learning

What a highly interesting start to the term we have had. I has been a real credit to staff and students the way they have demonstrated resilience and a flexible approach to learning in challenging circumstances.

Attendance

Students have been doing a fantastic job of logging into their Home Group at 8.50am each morning and completing the attendance question. We encourage all students to continue to follow this process throughout the term to ensure that students are engaging with the learning each day.

School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) Focus

Each week during Home Group we have a SWPB focus to encourage students to demonstrate positive behaviour in our school community. As students are currently in remote learning mode our focus has been around ensuring that we are all responsible digital citizens.

Respect All

  •

I will talk about myself and others online in a positive way

I will report inappropriate online activity

Embrace Learning

  •

I will come to class ready to learn

I will be a responsible digital citizen

Aim to Innovate & Inspire

  •

I will be open to using new technology and programs

I will use technology is a collaborative and inclusive way

Weekly Themes

Each week during Home Group we have had weekly themes to keep our students engaged during their remote learning experience. Our themes so far have been:

* The wonderful world of pets

* Where in the world am I?

* Cartoons.

Word of the Week

To increase student literacy and curiosity in building their vocabulary, each week there has been a Word of the Week for students to explore and learn. Our words so far have been:

* Auspicious

* Pandiculation

* Cantankerous

At home you can test your child's knowledge of these words and see what they are able to tell you. The more we build a student's vocabulary the greater their literacy and word knowlege.

Middle School Awards - Assembly

And lastly on a positive note, Belinda, Rachael and Tanele conducted our first ever online awards presentation for our students. This is able to be viewed by our students through the Year Level Google Classroom notice board.

Congratulations to all our award recipients.

And a big thank you to Belinda, Rachael and Tanele for taking the time to put this together and ensure that our students are positively recognised for their excellent efforts and demonstrating our values of

* Respect All

* Embrace Learning

* Aim to innovate

* Look to inspire yourself and others

Year 7 Update

The Year sevens have had a positive start to term 2, despite its challenges! A big ‘well done’ to all Year seven students and a huge thank you to all Year seven parents for their ongoing support. It has been a big change for us all and we hope that you are all in good spirits and keeping healthy.

From reports, the vast majority of Year seven students have been logging on to their home groups at 8:50 to track their attendance and then completing work remotely in their subject areas.

Year sevens had only been in high school for a mere eight weeks when this big change occurred. Despite this, students are showing great resilience, self-discipline and independence when it comes to their learning which has been incredible to see.

We were fortunate to have been able to still attend camp towards the end of last term. Students worked in teams to compete in a range of different activities and were engaged and very excited by the different activities on offer.

Learning has definitely changed, particular in Food Technology. Below are some examples of cooking remotely from home following recipes recorded by Sara, one of our Food Tech teachers of year 7 students. Their challenge was to create a 'cake in a mug'.  The cakes started popping up onto her Google Classroom within 20 minutes of the lesson being released which means students were very excited to make (and then eat!) their Cakes in a Mug. Hopefully they made one for their parents to taste  test too!
