Year 10 and Senior School

Year 10 and Senior School

Despite the impact of the Covid 19 Virus and remote learning the school is very busy planning for year 10 in 2021 and for the early delivery of VCE in 2021. The school is currently preparing all the documentation and resources for registration by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) for years 10 and additional registration for delivery of VCE by Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.

How does the VCE work?

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is the main senior secondary certificate in Victoria. It recognises successful completion of secondary education and provides a valuable pathway to tertiary study and employment.

A VCE program includes a number of different VCE studies (or subjects), with the majority consisting of four units that can be completed over the two years (a unit represents one semester or half a year of work). Units 1 and 2 are typically taken in Year 11, while Units 3 and 4 are usually completed in Year 12. Many schools provide the opportunity for students to study Units 1 and 2 of some VCE studies in Year 10 and Units 3 and 4 in Year 11. The school intend to offer access to a single VCE subject for year 10 students in 2021, this will be available to students who successfully apply for "Early Access to VCE".

Offering a wider range of programs from 2022

Each year as the school grows in terms of facilities, overall student numbers, the range of year levels and the size of each student cohort the school will be able to offer a wider range of programs.

In 2022 the school will introduce an additional range of programs these include the provision of the Victorian Certificate in Applied (VCAL) and Victorian Education and Training in schools (VETis).

What is VCAL?

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a practical option for students in Years 11 and 12. It is designed to prepare students for further education, training or employment by providing them with work-related experience, literacy and numeracy skills and an opportunity to develop personal skills. The college is planning to offer a VCAL program to students in year 11 in 2022.

What is VET

VET in Schools. VET (Vocational Education and Training) in Schools (VETiS) allows secondary students to gain practical skills in a specific industry while undertaking the VCE or VCAL including areas such as Automative, Building and Constructions, Commercial Cookery etc. The college is planning to offer a VET program to students in year 11 in 2022.
