Science and Engineering Challenge

Last week students from Years 9 and 10 participated in the annual North West Science and Engineering Challenge held at the Crossing Theatre in Narrabri.

Placing fourth overall, students joined with participants from across the region including Narrabri, Gunnedah, Coonabarabran, Walgett and Moree -  to channel their creative thinking and problem solving skills to try and solve a range of science, engineering and maths based challenges.

Now in its 19th year, the Challenge is an initiative of the University of Newcastle and sees them partnering with Rotary Clubs across the country to deliver the program locally.

Accompanying Wee Waa High students was Mrs Sharon Grellman, who has supported students in this for many years;  'The Challenge is a great way to help students see the many ways that science, engineering and maths interact with everyday life. It's a fun and challenging day. I'm so proud of the way that our students displayed teamwork and persistence to work through the many challenges. I also think the day really helps to inspire student interest in STEM subjects, as well as contributing to the elimination of the skills shortage that exists in science and engineering. We are also very grateful for the support of Narrabri Rotary', said Mrs Grellman.
