3/4 BOC - Numeracy

Numeracy

3/4 BOC have been engaging in a number of open ended Numeracy challenges this Term. These require us to work within random groupings and to challenge each other to complete an activity within a set time frame. For Location and Transformation we constructed a map which needed to be a birds eye view of Trinity. This was challenging because we had to think about where to accurately place our school landmarks and how helpful the map could be for a new member of our community.

When we began Geometric Reasoning we were challenged to create a piece of art using only angles. This required us to use a protractor and construct a number of images that varied in angle size. This was challenging because using protractors is a new skill, however the students rose to the challenge and collaborated together to produce interesting and outstanding pieces of work.

When we approached Chance we reflected on what we would like to create in small teams. We landed on creating board games that involved an element of chance. This challenge showed just how creative and dynamic our students are as they were designers, builders and artists who gave each other feedback and constantly tried to improve the quality and experience of their game.
