Library

This year students have been engaged with the digital platform SORA, and have used its algorithm to suggest books, as well as to measure their progress and time reading. The digital library motivates and wakes up those dormant readers, with audiobooks and creative magazines. The Australian Catholic Education Network (ACEN) digital collection has grown bigger than ever with over 22,000 digital resources, accessible to Brigidine students. 

Digital books are accessible 24/7 and can never be overdue. 

This Year students from all over Australia celebrated Book Week by taking part in a creative and collaborative competition. Teams of up to ten had just twelve hours to write and illustrate a book from start to finish. To make it even more enjoyable, unique parameters were included in the story. Digital editions of the completed stories have been made available on the Online Library and shared with hospitals across Australia. This year the 45 students who entered the competition raised $4455 for The Kids’ Cancer Project. 

The Brigidine College Randwick library is full of books, 10,346 physical books to be exact. The top titles of the year were borrowed over 20 times. This semester the library has been full of controlled chaos, perhaps too many giggles as students collaborate on group projects, connect with their Big Sisters for academic support, have space to discuss research and work on their chess skills. 

The Brigidine College library is an extension of the classroom, a common learning environment, with supervised quiet rooms for study and a place to collaborate with peers and meet with teachers outside of lesson time to develop projects and discuss all the new books in the Library.

Year 7 have had a very successful year building their reading skills with the Accelerated Reader program; with one student reading over 3,028,553 words. For their effort and engagement in the program, students have been awarded book gift vouchers to spend at Kinokuniya Sydney.
