“Advent is a continuous call to hope,”

(Pope Francis)

Advent

The season of Advent reminds us that we can look forward to and prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas. It is a season of many things: expectation, reflection, hope and trust. We are constantly in a state of expectation, always in advent, so much so that we can miss the present moment where, inevitably, God will be.

Preparation for Christmas is an important theme for Advent, but more is involved. Advent gives us a vision of our lives as Christians and shows us the possibilities of life.

The vision of life that Advent gives us is twofold; it looks back to the first coming of Christ at Bethlehem, and it looks to the future when Christ will come again. In the interval between these two events, we find meaning in our life as Christians.

This is the "greater significance" of Advent. In these few short weeks, we take in the sweeping panorama of time - from Christ's birth to his Second Coming. The season of Advent brings us a magnificent vision of life and hope for the future given to us by Christ.

Brigidine College Christmas Appeal

Thank you to every family who supported our Christmas Appeal this year. Our dual appeal, supporting St Vincent de Paul and Canice's Kitchen, ensures families in our community can feel joy and love this Christmas.

Both organisations were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of donations this year. I thank each and every one of you who donated to ensure that families in our local community have food this Christmas.
