Sports Update

Preston Campbell Cup

Stages 2 and 3 had a fantastic day in Guyra for the Preston Campbell Cup. These students displayed excellent sportsmanship and skills throughout the day which they should be extremely proud of. Even though it was a fun day, where the score at the end of each game did not matter, it was evident the students were keeping track and were very excited that there were many wins to be had.

Thank you to the teachers; Katie McMeniman, Frances Parsons and Karen Fletcher for their help on the day and a massive thank you goes to our parent helpers; Alise McBain and Donna McAllister who volunteered their time to look after a team for the day. We really appreciate all that you do for us at St Joey’s.

If you haven’t done so already, please return playing uniforms to school in a bag with your child’s name on the bag.

League Stars

In a similar fashion, the NRL are holding another day like the Preston Campbell Cup for our students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. It will be on Friday the 24th March at Meade Park. Further details have been sent to the parents of these students, on Compass, in the Event labelled ‘League Stars’. Please contact the school if you have not received this.

Diocesan Winter Trials

Ella Bruce, Abigail Pietsch, Paige Floyd and Danyela Bailey travelled to Tamworth to participate in the Diocesan Winter Trials for netball. These girls displayed excellent skills on the netball court and held their own against the rest of the Diocese. Ella, Paige and Danyela were picked in the ‘Possibles and Probables’ and from this match, Ella and Paige were chosen in the Armidale Diocesan team. For a small school, it is clear we have some excellent development happening for our children in Glen Innes in the sport of netball. Having two of our students chosen to test themselves at the next level is outstanding. Well done girls!

Fletcher Barratt and Lachlan Grob also competed in these trials for the Opens Rugby League team. In a similar scenario to the girls, these boys were able to showcase all their talent and did not look at all out of place. Unfortunately for Lachlan, he was tackled awkwardly in his first game which resulted in an injury that stopped him from playing for the rest of the day. Fletcher went on to play and was picked in the Diocesan team. Congratulations Fletcher!

Ella, Paige and Fletcher will travel to Tamworth early next term to participate in the Polding trials. We wish these students all the best.

Polding Touch Trials

Good luck to Aila McBain, Paige Floyd and Fletcher Barratt who are travelling to Parkes on the 27th and 28th March to test themselves at the next level in Touch Football. They will showcase their skills in the hope they are chosen for the Polding Touch Football Team. We will provide an update in the next newsletter.
