Retirement - Registrar of Supreme Court of Tasmania 

Jim Connolly finishes his career in Court administration as the 17th Registrar of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, a position he has held since May 7 2012.

After a short time in private practice his employment has been in public service, more broadly, the Department of Justice.

In 1998, Jim was appointed as the Administrator (Principal Registrar) of the Magistrates Court, a position he held for 14 years, until his appointment as Registrar of the Supreme Court.

During 2011, Jim was appointed as the Deputy Secretary (acting) of the Department of Justice.

As the Registrar, he has held the titles of Sheriff of Tasmania, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Commissioner, the Admiralty Marshall, and Registrar in Probate. He has conducted many mediations of civil disputes before the Court and taxations of the legal costs of practitioners.

The Society records its acknowledgment of Jim’s considerable contribution to the administration of practice in Tasmania and wishes him all the best in retirement.
