Debating

What a year it's been for the Heathmont College Debating Club. What started as a casual lunch time activity quickly turned into a team of students who were fierce competition against other schools. 

Our Year 10 debating team consisted of: Darcy Cook, Evie Taylor, Sofia Howie, Stephanie Morgans, Maddie Butler and Anthony Westerfeld. They worked hard throughout the year, with some highlights being: 

• Winning the staff vs students debate in Term 3 
• Sofia winning best speaker in her round at the Debaters Association of Victoria competition 
• Seeing the team blossom and grow as a team competing against other schools 

Our Year 8 debating team consisted of: Mya Greenyer, Caitlyn Morgans, Zoe Morgans and Ellie Westerfeld. They continued to challenge themselves throughout the year and only recently finished their Debating Competition, some highlights have been: 

• Winning the staff vs students debate in Term 3 
• Being undefeated in the Junior Debaters Association of Victoria competition against some very competitive schools 
• Ellie winning best speaker of the entire Junior Debaters Association Victoria competition 

We look forward to continuing to watch the students excel in their public speaking and debating skills next year!
