Sports Academy 2022 Reflection

What a year it was to finally get the Sports Academy up and running on campus for the whole of 2022. We had to make many adjustments along the way, but it was all well worth it in the end.

As I look back, I am very proud of what our academy were able to accomplish in 2022. We had our first ever interschool-academy competition with Mount Ridley College and have established a yearly home and away competition featuring both Basketball and Footy.

Our kids really took pride in representing the sports academy in these competitions and showed great promise in all the events, as well as catching the eye of the coaches for outstanding performances.

We had our first annual HEAT Awards banquet to honour those kids who have embraced the values of the sports academy and represented themselves quite well within the Heathmont school community.

Our HEAT Award winners will also be the first students inducted into the Heathmont College Sports Academy Hall of Fame and will have their photo displayed in the stadium. Having said this, I want to again congratulate Marley Aveling and Matthew Hallikainen for their outstanding accomplishments.

Moving forward the Sports Academy has made some much-needed changes as we continue to grow the program. Our new coaching staff is eager to help provide technical skills and elite pathways for our student-athletes, and I am very excited to be a part of the new direction.

To all the athletes in the 2022 academy, I thank you for your efforts, and to all those athletes that are a part of the 2023 program, get ready for exciting times ahead!
