Horse Sports

Don’t say nay neigh! Say hey hay yay!!!

If you are a horse aficionado, you will know what a Gymkhana is all about but for those of you who are not sure a brief outline is as follows: it is an equestrian event consisting of speed pattern racing and timed games for riders on horses.

So, Glen Innes High School can be proud of the skill shown by a small group of students who, under the auspices of Mrs Jacki Kiehne, who attended the Interschool Horse Extravaganza in Tamworth in mid-October. The group consisted of Chloe and Jasmine Klinger, Alison and Suzie Lockwood with Clare and Lachlan Munro making up the team of six.

All these students did well in their respective age groups “taking the bit between their teeth” so to speak and not letting anything daunt them. More importantly, when you consider that they competed against participants from across NSW and Queensland it was all the more remarkable for their successes.

The fact that Glen Innes High School is able to enter a team in such an event demonstrates the diversity of our school students and how they show a commitment to self-achievement and community representation. And this was repeated when: -

On 4 November, thirteen “fillies and colts” from Glen Innes High School attended Tenterfield Showground competing against schools from around the region in the Tenterfield Horse Sports Gymkhana. There is no denying that they bucked ahead of the other schools when they were declared the Highest Point Score (HPS) for a large school.

Congratulations are due to all the team members but there were some outstanding achievements by a number of the participants including Illysa Newberry (HPS Girls 14 Yrs), Suzie Lockwood (Reserve HPS 13 Girls Yrs), Lloyd Newberry (HPS Boys 12 Yrs), Lachlan Munro (Reserve HPS Boys 14 Yrs).

Overall, the team were successful in gaining lots of ribbons with the highlight of winning against a total of 41 competitors.
