YEAR SIX ASSEMBLY PERFORMANCE

What a lovely thing it was to have three groups of our Year 6 students finish the year on a high note!!

At Assembly last Friday there was a stunning performance of original music by Thomas, Hugh and Joshua; Ella, Lilly and Chloe; and Charlotte, Chloe S and Shelby.

While Mrs Lowe was on Long Service Leave these students worked on improvising and composing their own short fragments of music.  Working in groups they combined these fragments, sometimes playing them at the same time and sometimes one after another, adding in more material until they had a piece of music they liked.  Playing the melodic percussion instruments – chime bars, marimba, metallophone and xylophone – they worked at lunchtimes to bring their compositions up to performance level.

And what a successful performance it was!  They played to a silent, listening crowd of over five hundred people, and when they finished the applause was thunderous.

Congratulations to these students and to the others in Year 6 for an excellent year in Music.  You have been amazing and it’s been an absolute joy to teach you.
