Christmas Giving at the College

Thank you to all families who are so generously supporting our Christmas Giving appeal. The appeal will be finalised at the end of this week.

We are supporting the following organisations to help those less fortunate than ourselves this Christmastime:

  • St Vincent de Paul
  • The Bowraville community
  • Catholic Care
  • The Burdekin Association
  • Centacare
  • St Michael’s, Darlington

Each of these organisations provide assistance to those experiencing hardship. Full details of requests per year group can be found in the document below:

Founder's Day

Last Friday saw the St Pius X College community gather at Oxford Falls to celebrate all that we value of the spirituality of Blessed Edmund Rice. Edmund had a profound concern for those who experienced disadvantaged – those who we say are on the margins of society. While we have supported through many appeals those who experience disadvantage, there is still a disconnect between our lives at St Pius and the reality of those on the margins. In order to better understand the experience of refugees, presenters from the Australian Refugee Council provided an intimate insight in the lives of a refugee. It is hoped that talking with, rather than talking to those experiencing hardship, we are more likely to make a reality all that we aspire – “to give to the poor in handfuls.” My thanks to the valuable hard work from the many departments, such as the Maintenance and ICT Departments, along with the staff of the College, including Mr Balboa and Mr Cummins, for all of their work to make our day such a success.

Year 10 Immersions

In order to better understand the many communities that we support through the generous donations of families, a small group of Year 10 students are spending this week immersed in other communities. We have staff and students working in: Walgett, Bowraville, Central Coast, St Edmund’s School Wahroonga and St Gabriel’s School Castle Hill. These experiences provide the students with an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of people who experience hardship and isolation. Each group of students will present to Year 10 about their experiences next week.  I would also like to thank the staff who are running these immersions this week.
