Morrisby Profiling

The junior campus Careers Program for 2020 has started with a bang. We started the year with the Morrisby profiling for our year 9’s in February… which all went beautifully. We had 70 students at Kings Park attending this day and presently they are all having their half hour Morrisby reports discussion with career consultants.

Year 10 Industry Immersion Experience

The first of our year 10 Industry Immersion Experience was on Monday 10th February. A group of year 10 students who had expressed an interest in the Hotel Industry were treated to a wonderful day of exploration and learning at the IBIS Hotel in the city - a branch of the AccorHotels. This industry immersion experience offered our students the opportunity to go behind the scenes and get a real world taste of life working in the Visitor Economy Industry.

They listened to top level management from various departments discussing their positions and sharing their experiences within the hotel and gave our students the opportunity to ask questions. Students visited every department at the IBIS Hotel and were involved in hands on activities such as making their own Pizza lunch under the direction of the head chef at IBIS. They also learnt about making up rooms/beds, making fancy coffees and even mock cocktails that they very much enjoyed .

We have our next Industry Immersion Experience for year 9 and 10’s on March 19th. Interested students have already registered their names to attend this exciting day of learning activities to build their knowledge of the world of work focused around the ever growing Rail Industry.

RMIT

Additionally the whole of our year 10 cohort at both junior have attended RMIT for our annual Tertiary Experience Day. This day was packed with presentations and information about future pathways and scholarship options at RMIT. The theme this year was on the ever growing Information Technology field of work. Students learnt  about Space Science, Computer Science, Graphic Design just to name a few.

Try a Trade

We are also offering our interested students a visit to Apprenticeship Group Australia’s “Try a Trade day for boys and girls” in term 2 as well as a “Try a Trade Day for girls” later this term. All interested students are encouraged to register their names in my office.

Year 10 Work Experience

A reminder to all year 10 students to think seriously about the one week Work Experience offered throughout the year. This gives our students a taste of the world of work in their chosen area. The dates offered are first and last week of each term with the exclusion of the first week of term 2 due to the Easter break.

Please collect the application form from my office or download from the Pathway page on the college website.

As always all students and their families are welcome to contact me if I can assist with any of your pathways/career enquiries.
