Kings Park Campus Principal Message

From the principal's Desk

Hello and a warm welcome to all members of the Copperfield College (Kings Park) community for 2020. We’d particularly like to welcome the families of our Year 7 students and those new to Copperfield College. We encourage you to play an integral role in shaping the futures of your children and that of our school community.

My name is Ms Mary Chiodo and I am one of the two campus principals here at the Kings Park campus. This year, Mr Lance Petherick will join me as the other campus principal. Lance has been working at the Sydenham campus over the last few years and we welcome him to his new ‘home’. After a number of years at Kings Park, Renato Carinci has moved to the Delahey campus. Renato was instrumental in many initiatives on the campus and his dedication to upgrading the grounds is very much appreciated. Both the C and T Team areas have now been completed and students are enjoying these spaces during their break times.

Staff Farewelled

At the end of last year, we farewelled to retirement the following long term staff members; Ms Debra Crick, Ms Deborah Supriyono, Mr Oleh Kowalyk, Mr Glenn Mcleod and Ms Robyn Lyons. We thank these dedicated people for their contribution to Copperfield College and the broader education community.

Staff Welcomed

I’d also like to welcome the following staff new to Copperfield College  and to the Kings Park Campus; Ms Vivianne Dimitakopoulos (IT/Tech), Ms Pavani Katugampola (Art/Tech), Mr David Laba (LOTE Japanese), Mr Milos Subotic (Hums), Ms Jessica Francke (PE/Health) and Ms Taylor Van Orsouw (performing Arts). I have no doubt that their experience here will be enriching and positively stimulating.

Leadership Structure Changes

A slight change to the campus leadership structure has also occurred since 2019. Mr Josh Dench has taken on the D Team Leader role and he joins the Junior school student management team that includes Mr Nick Taseski as L Team Leader and Ms Pam Farrelly as the Campus Leader. At Years 9 and 10 we have Ms Deanne Geyer as T Team Leader and Ms Jade Tauber as C Team Leader with Mr Brad Rankin as the Middle school Campus Leader. We wish you all the best in your work and know that you will role model the values of Respect, Responsibility and valuing Relationships in all your interactions with members of the Copperfield College community. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Tina Tsaloukis for the way in which she led D Team over the last two years.

I encourage all families to get to know the names of the Team and Campus Leaders. These staff members will be spending lots of time with your children. At Copperfield, we strive to develop strong and meaningful relationships between home and school and we recommend that all families use the Compass system as a student management tool to remain up-to-date with all that is happening with your child and at school.

Compass School Manager app

Please download the Compass School Manager app and ensure you have login details. If unsure, please contact the General office. You should also alert the General office of any changes to your contact details so that accurate communication can be maintained.

It certainly has been a hectic, yet seamlessly smooth start to the year and this is mainly due to the collaborative and hardworking efforts of our teachers and educational support staff.

Year 7 Transition

The Year 7 Transition program provides a wonderful opportunity for our new Year 7 students to ‘learn the ropes’ of life in a secondary setting as well as engage in a fun team building exercise that will conclude with Iron Form Day later in the term.

Meet and Greet Evening

On Tuesday 18 of February, we hosted a successful Meet & Greet evening for all families in the Open Space. This provided an opportunity for real community spirit through conversations between teachers and parents, displays, music and more.

Swimming Carnival

The College Swimming carnival was again a great success, thanks to Ms Kylie Brookshaw (College Sport Leader) and her Team for their work in putting the Carnival together. D Team came in second and there were some outstanding performances by individual students across both junior teams.

School Photos

Again this year, school photos will be coordinated through Compass. Students have been given information to take home and read to parents. Money will not be accepted on the day by either Compass staff or the General Office. There are several payment options including the use of the parent portal. Please read the notices taken home. Photo day is scheduled for Monday 24 February.

Morrisby Testing

Later in this newsletter there is information regarding the Year 9 Morrisby profiling completed by our Year 9 students. Please note the details in the Pathways section.

Japan Visit

This year Copperfield students will be travelling to Japan to once again meet up with members of our sister school in Fuji City. Details will be posted once we have confirmed the dates and we will invite students to express interest in taking part in the trip.

The year has just begun yet we have achieved much in such a short time. It won’t be long before we provide you with another update of life at the Kings Park campus of Copperfield College. Until then, we wish you well in all that you do.

Ms Mary Chiodo and Mr Lance Petherick
