”Olivia secures an SBAT with PORSCHE”

We are pleased to announce Olivia, a Year 12 automotive student here at Delahey, has secured a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) with Porsche Centre Melbourne.

After receiving an open invitation from Giles Hunter (Service Manager) and the team at Porsche to visit and tour the world class dealership and workshop for our then, Year 11 student in late 2019, Olivia knew she wanted more.

Olivia showed tremendous enthusiasm to work with Porsche, continually following up with positive initiative to secure herself one week of work experience. After securing this in late January, and displaying all the attributes Porsche seek, and with help from WPC Group, (employer of apprentices and trainees) and the hard working team at Skilling Australia Foundation (SAF), Olivia was offered an apprenticeship to commence her career with the prestige brand.

In Olivia’s one week of placement she quickly made a huge impression with her “can do attitude”, work ethic and commitment, leading Porsche to offer Olivia the opportunity to start an apprenticeship on a one day a week basis until she completes her Year 12 qualification late in 2020. This arrangement helps Olivia continue her education with Copperfield College as well as providing her with the skills and experience to forge ahead in her chosen career path.

If Olivia continues to display her passion and impress her peers at Porsche over the coming year there’s every chance she can be the first female offered an apprenticeship with the team - which is fantastic news!

Reaction on line has been very positive;

 Piero Pelligreni, General Manager at Porsche Centre Melbourne Pty Ltd

“What an exciting week of learning for Olivia. The service team at Porsche Centre Melbourne was delighted seeing such a bright young lady embracing the various and complex processes we continuously review and implement at the home of Porsche in Australia. We look forward to seeing her back soon! Thank you Skilling Australia Foundation for the opportunity.”

Ms Mary Chiodo - Campus Principal at Copperfield College,  wrote on LinkedIn: “Fantastic opportunity for Olivia and for Porsche AG Congratulations to all involved and especially to Olivia and her family for recognising the power of #workplacelearning Very proud”

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Giles Hunter at Porsche, Evan Henry at WPC and all those involved at the Skilling Australia Foundation for helping behind the scenes in aiding Olivia to secure her SBAT position.

On a personal note, I wish Olivia every success on her placement with Porsche, she works so hard and thoroughly deserves this opportunity. Well done, we’re all very proud.

Year 12 MEE Day

On Friday 14 February, all Year 12 students went to La Trobe University for our annual MEE Day excursion—to Motivate, Empower and Energise our students in preparation for their final year of school. In the morning, the VCE and VCAL students split up. The VCAL students completed an Amazing Race, navigating their way around the university campus while their problem solving skills and teamwork were put to the test. In the meantime, VCE students heard about life as a university student from La Trobe Uni Student Ambassadors and learnt from education expert Brad Felstead about strategies for studying effectively and staying healthy during what can be a difficult and stressful year.

After lunch, VCE and VCAL students joined together to hear from comedian and writer Declan Fay, who gave a hilarious and inspiring speech about making sure they don’t get to the end of their time at school and wonder, “What if?” The rest of the day was spent at La Trobe’s brand new Sports Park facility, where students got the opportunity to unwind with some physical exercise.

It was a long but memorable day, and I hope that all members of the Class of 2020 will continue to feel motivated, empowered and energised to reach their absolute potential this year.
