Students participated in the ABODA Festival

Musical Notes

We have had a very musical week with some amazing accomplishments and performances from our students. It has been a busy time, with both the ABODA Festival and our Annual Music Concert being held.

ABODA Festival Results

On Thursday 24 and Friday 25 August, Blackfriars Priory School competed in the Australian Band and Orchestra Director’s Festival. With a lot of preparation, we were very pleased with the overall results of our ensembles. Concert Band Three started the competition on Thursday morning and were awarded a Silver, with Concert Band One following suit on Thursday afternoon, also achieving a Silver. On Friday afternoon Stage Band 2 competed and were awarded a Gold, with Stage Band 1 performing on Friday evening and awarded a Silver. We were very proud of all the students who participated in the Festival as there were some very large ensembles and strong competition. Thank you to all the parents who came to Westminster School to support their son’s and Blackfriars.

Annual Music Concert

On Thursday 31 August we celebrated our Annual Music Concert at the Woodville Town Hall. With students involved from across the school, it is a very large event for the school and strongly represents the Dominican Pillar of Community. A special Annual Music Concert article will feature in the next fortnight’s newsletter. I would like to thank all who were involved and who contributed to the evening.

Catholic School’s Music Festival

On Tuesday 19 September and Wednesday 20 September, Blackfriars will have a large representation at the Catholic School’s Music Festival at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. On Tuesday evening the Big Band Theory will perform as a support act on the main stage, with Stage Band 1 and the Percussion Ensemble performing in the Foyer. On Wednesday evening the 6/7 Choir will perform as part of the Festival Choir. Each evening there will be a group of students performing as part of the Combined School’s Baritone Group. A reminder that all tickets need to be directly purchased through Ticketek.

Thank you to everyone who has shown their support and appreciation of the Music Department. In the words of Plato “Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul”.

Yours Musically,
