Student leadership

Leaders are role models who seek to support and give a voice to the student body whose common purpose is to create a quality learning environment by upholding and promoting the Four Pillars of Dominican Life: Prayer, Study, Community and Service. The 2018 Student leadership team will contribute to the development of a strong school spirit through connection and engagement of all cultural groups and the development of inclusive relationships.

The 2018 student leadership process has commenced with Prefect applications to be received by Friday 8 September 2017. The applications will be assessed and a shortlist developed for interviews with members of the Executive Team in Week 9 of Term 3.

The boys’ written application, staff recommendations and interview will be taken into account throughout the process and the following criteria will be used when deciding on the 2018 Prefects:

  1. Service history – both within the school (or previous schools) and outside the school
  2. Academic performance – in terms of achieving at or near their best
  3. Involvement in school activities – including co-curricular and other significant school events
  4. Faith commitment – through their involvement in opportunities within the school and also their ability to articulate how they will lead the school in this area.

The criteria are closely linked to the Four pillars of Dominican Life, which are the foundations on which the school was built. The boys who are selected will be presented at the Year 12 Farewell and Leadership Handover Assembly to be held on Friday 27 October 2017.

Some of the Pastoral Care sessions in the remaining weeks of the term will be used for working through the process of appointing 2018 Year 12 House Captains, Year 11 Deputy House Captains and Year 10 Deputy Vice Captains in Houses. These positions, along with 2018 Prefects will be announced to the Community in Term 4 Week 1.

As part of the selection process students will present a speech to their House outlining their vision for 2018 and their model of servant leadership. The boys who will be selected in these leadership positions will also be presented at the Year 12 Farewell and Leadership Assembly on Friday 27 October 2017.

Please note the Middle School Leaders are organised by Key Class, and will be appointed early in 2018.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank the students currently leading our school as they are a credit to themselves, their families and the school. We are very lucky to be blessed with so many students with such refined leadership qualities.

Mobile Phones Policy

A reminder that mobile phones should be switched off and kept out of sight during classroom lessons. Unless express permission is granted by the teacher, mobile phones should not be used to make calls, send SMS messages, surf the Internet, take photos or used in any other application during school lessons and other educational activities, such as assemblies.

Parents are reminded that in cases of emergency, the Blackfriars Priory School office remains a vital and appropriate point of contact and can ensure your child is reached quickly and assisted in any appropriate way.
