NETBALL

St Nicholas School Netball Club

Welcome to the 2020 season of netball for new and returning players. Netball will be played at the Tamworth Sports Dome. The Saturday Winter competition begins on Saturday, 2nd May 2020.

PHILOSOPHY

Our St Nicholas Netball Club Philosophy is to be inclusive

and we aim to create a positive environment for players

to enrich their love of netball and team sport.

We just want the children to have fun in their chosen sport.

TEAMS

As you can imagine, we do everything possible to create teams that are fair and allow all children to play. This may mean that sometimes teams may be split according to the numbers that we receive. We thank you in advance for your understanding. We are all volunteers that run this club, and you are more than welcome to help!

NETBALL DUTY

During the course of the winter competition, netball clubs are rostered on to complete a ‘duty’. This means that we have to do a few little jobs on the day such as putting out the pads for the goals on the courts. This generally happens only twice a season and we would really appreciate it if you could help out during these times. You will be told when St Nicholas School is rostered on.

NO JEWELLERY

Players cannot play netball with jewellery and will not be able to take the court with any jewellery on. So please plan to pierce ears before or after the netball season.

TRAINING

Please also remember that if you commit your child to netball, you commit them to training.  A reminder from the coaches- please be prompt when picking up your child from netball training. The coaches also have a family to take care of and they are volunteers who give up their valuable time to help.

A LITTLE ABOUT HOW NETBALL RUNS .....

Net, Set, Go! is three tiered. This level starts at 12pm. Children who play at this level of competition also receive a Net, Set, Go! pack that usually arrives in the post to you before the end of the netball season.

  • Net 5-6yrs Skills. This is a play-based movement skills program where the emphasis is on the acquisition of basic movement skills, in a fun environment of games and activities. Kindergarten and Year 1 will play in this tier. (Year 1 children can choose between this tier or the next one, but 7 year olds have to pay the $138.19) They use a size 4 ball.
  • Set 7-8yrs Modified Game. Children are in teams. They learn to play netball using the modified rules, lower netball ring etc. This is a non-competitive competition with guidance and coaching. This tier is for Year 1 and Year 2 students. Please note that if you nominate your Year 1 child to play in this tier, they may end up playing with and/or against children older than them. They use a size 4 ball.
  • Go! 9yrs Modified Game & 10yrs Competition. This is a competition for children who are in Year 4. Children who play in this tier do not play finals netball, but they do have a competition ladder. These children play by the ‘normal’ rules and use a size 5 ball.

Juniors (11-17 year olds) usually play at 1pm. They play by the ‘normal’ netball rules with the correct netball ring height.  This is a competitive competition with finals netball being played and trophies awarded. This is for Year 5 and Year 6. They play with a normal size 5 ball.

UNIFORM

  • Kinder/Year 1 skills can wear their Net, Set, Go! Shirt, shorts and joggers.
  • The Year 1 and Year 2 team players wear their St Nicholas School sports shirt, a bottle green skirt, white socks and suitable sports shoes.
  • Year 3 will be purchasing a netball dress this year, as decided at the 2019 AGM. We anticipate it to be roughly $45. The intention is to strategically introduce the dress uniform for each new Year 3 team each year so that it takes over the old skirt and singlet uniform.
  • Year 4, 5 and 6 teams will continue to wear the skirt and singlet netball uniform. You can hire a uniform for $15 for the season from Emma Elliott (Year 2). Soft netball visors are available from the front office in two sizes- child and adult for $8.00 and $9.00 respectively.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Those parents who very kindly volunteer to coach a team are to be listened to and all instructions to be followed by players both at training and when competing. Should you have an issue with your child's coach please speak to them privately without your children being present. Show respect for your coaches and their decisions.

Parents should not interfere or enter the playing field during a game as the on field officials should be left to adjudicate. If parents have concerns they should approach the coach at a break and not the children.

Should a player, coach or parent not respect this code of conduct while representing St Nicholas School it may prevent their inclusion in teams in the future as this is not the image that we wish to portray in the wider community.
