Congratulations to the class of 2018

In recent weeks, Year 12 students at the various senior secondary schools around the district have been sitting exams and finishing work for the VCE. Our Year 10 class of 2018 went on to study at various schools including Mildura Senior College and St Joseph's College. We're proud of them and their achievements and want to congratulate them for persevering through a very challenging year. We love to hear of their achievements and we're so pleased they are doing so well. Two such students are Hannah Mitchell and Miranda Robinson. They have studied the VCE these past two years at St Joseph's College and are soon to graduate. SJC was keen to share with us some thoughts these girls put down on paper recently. We thought you might be interested as well. Well done, Hannah & Miranda.

Hannah Mitchell

What was your best memory of Mildura Christian College?

My best memory of MCC was convention especially south PAC in 2018 performing choir. I also loved having a small homeroom and classes with my friends made it feel like we were all a part of a community.

What values/learnings did you take from Mildura Christian College that are instilled in you today?

One of the many learnings I took from MCC was independent studies which has been very useful/helpful during VCE and online learning. By coming together every Monday morning for assembly I learned the value of getting to know people and creating community bonds.

What have been your best experiences that you have had at St Joseph’s College?

Going on the Melbourne Career Expo in 2019 has been one of the best experiences with St Joseph’s College which gave me access to multiple resources about future pathways. The seminar days throughout Years 11 and 12 have allowed me to grow and broaden my friendship group and meet new people in my year level. Ultimately, the best experience I’ve had at the college is the support they have shown towards me during my time there.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to move to Adelaide in 2021 to do a law degree and hopefully one day become a lawyer or legal clerk.

Miranda Robinson

What was your best memory of Mildura Christian College?

My best memory of Mildura Christian College was the sporty and community-based atmosphere. Everyone knew each other and even though it was small school, there was still some tough competition in the sport carnivals. At MCC I got to enjoy my most loved hobbies, music and sport, with the help of Mr Tresize in the preparation of my musical performances for assemblies and for upcoming end of year student conventions, and Mr Jackson for giving us the opportunity to play a large variety of sports during our PE lessons and at recess and lunch, whether it be him coaching us or us having a visitor coach and him getting in on the fun with us.

What values/learnings did you take from Mildura Christian College that are instilled in you today?

The values that I took from Mildura Christian College that are instilled in me today was to respect everyone, to believe in yourself and stand by what you believe no matter what or who tries to knock you down, and also to set achievable but challenging goals both in study and in life.

What have been your best experiences that you have had at St Joseph’s College?

The best experiences I have had at St Joseph's College are performing at Harmony Day 2020, singing with the choir at the annual college music performance concert 2019, representing the college at the 2019 interschool athletics carnival in triple jump and high jump, learning more about the hobbies that I'm passionate about through my electives, which are studio arts, dance, PE and psychology, and of course meeting new people, making new friends and enjoying the time that I get to spend with people every day, whether it be in person or on a five minute check in zoom.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to move to Adelaide to live close to my brother and my dad’s side of the family and to hopefully further my job as a sports coach with a Bachelor of Human Movement/ Master of Secondary Teaching at the University of South Australia, or a course similar.
