From the Principal's Desk

How many times have you recently heard, "Who would have thought 2020 would be like this?"  or  "12 months ago I could never have imagined..."   It's true, of course.  None of us knew what was coming.  We assumed our lives would follow a familiar course according to our carefully laid plans.  We might have expected a few curveballs along the way - life is often like that - but none of us could have predicted the major detour this year would take us on.  None of us knew, but God did.

We have a tendency to feel as if things are getting out of control once life deviates from the plan we've put in place. In reality, God is always in control.  He is still on the throne.  His plans will still take place.  He will continue to do all His will.  In that respect, nothing has changed.  God is still sovereign over all.

We don't know what life will look like in the months and years ahead.  But we rest confidently in the knowledge though that God is still in charge and will continue to be so.  Whatever challenges we still need to overcome, God will never leave us or forsake us.

Our students have faced many challenges this year.  They have overcome many obstacles to their learning, and excelled in adapting to the circumstances around them.  We would love to celebrate their accomplishments with graduation ceremonies and award presentations.  At this stage we don't know what that will look like.  The easing of restrictions we had hoped for is yet to occur.  Perhaps this weekend will bring some good news in that regard.

We've held off finalising our end-of-year plans in the hope we can do something nice for our students that will involve parents and friends.   I hope to be able to make some announcements in that regard in the next week.

In a normal year, we would be super busy preparing for an end-of-year musical production at the Arts Centre.  I wonder if you remember  Arrest these Merry Gentlemen,  or  A Play in a Manger?  What about The Loaned Manger, or last year's Little Drummer Dude?   All of these musicals celebrated Christ leaving the glory of Heaven to come and be with us.  He came to be our rescuer and to free us from slavery to sin and fear.   Let's make sure that nothing stops us remembering and celebrating this great wonder.

Sunday, November 29 marks the beginning of Advent—a time of yearning, longing, and anticipation, when Christians of all stripes turn their eyes to Heaven and remember that their hope isn’t in anything around us, but only in the return of our Blessed Savior. We remember and long for the day when everything will be unified again under Christ, and we begin to retell the alternative story of what’s really going on in this sad, broken world.

All this happens in the eyes of our [kids], who are watching what we prioritize, and where our zeal is directed. So this holiday season, which version of reality will we model as preeminent? Let’s let the chaos of this year encourage us to return to our first love, and to make room in our hearts again for the only One who can truly save.
