Grade Three

Grade 3 Report

We have been so impressed by the way that the students have demonstrated resilience and a growth mindset during what has been a challenging year. The term is now in full swing and the warm weather is finally here. Even though we are still getting lots of rain! Melbourne!

During Book Week we celebrated the theme ‘Curious Creatures and Wild Minds’. We were impressed to see how much effort our students and staff put into their book related costumes and outfits. The students enjoyed exploring the theme for Book Week and participating in many fun filled crafts and activities. We explored the book Where the Wild Things Are, which was related to the topic. It was a great week!

In Literacy this term, we are focusing on improving the Writing process, continuing with Smart spelling, and completing many  reading tasks. We have worked hard as we continue to learn how to join letters and plenty of students have received their joining licence which is sensational! This term the students also enjoyed learning about Indigenous stories where we discussed what it means to be Indigenous and explored the Aboriginal culture.

In Maths, the students have revised topics of Fractions, 2D & 3D Shape, Time and Money. We have also been revising Measurement by particularly focusing on Length, Capacity and Mass. Throughout this term, we have continued to revise number concepts and work on our Mental Computation. We are also working hard to learn our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.

As part of our Integrated studies we have been doing an ‘Oatlands Road Trip’ where we have travelled around Australia. It has been so much fun learning about the history of each state. We have had an opportunity to research many interesting tourist attractions and learn more about our wonderful country.

Our students have been enjoying returning to their Specialist classes and participating in Sport, Music, Art, Technology and Language (Italian/Japanese). They are currently very excited and eager about the upcoming dance production. We have been working very hard practising our dance with our partner grade and we can’t wait to be able to show you all what we have been working on.

We thank you for all of your assistance in making the transition back to school a successful one and we look forward to what the rest of the term has in store.
