Placard making during Enviro week

All the action from Enviro Week

We had a wonderful Enviro week and have lots of pictures of the action to share with you.

One hightlight was the Darebin and Ozgreen “ Youth lead the world” conference where Mila Lawson Romy Nolan, Emma Salmon, Leni Sutherland and Elias Zombolas presented their environmental green team goals to local youth and environmental community leaders, to assist in getting their actions met. We thank Natalie Jamieson, Ali Thwaites and Dave for the opportunity. These students have also received a certificate for their outstanding contributions throughout the two day workshop and forum. Please check out the pictures below to review these goals and see their awesome impromptu hand shake.

Some of the other highlights of the week included the colourful placard making workshop that you can see installed along the front school fence. Students had the chance to get creative as well as voicing their environmental concerns. We also had a 100% Renewables photo shoot, encouraged teachers for more outdoor classes and a big Merri Creek clean up.

On Friday the 30th of October Ms Andreovski ,15 other students and me went to the Merri Creek to do a Clean-up. We found lots of golf balls, and lots of plastic filled up from previous floods. We also saw some of the native wildlife along the creek including ducks and birds. It was really fun and enjoyable cleaning up the creek. Some of the wildlife came to thank us as well which was nice! We left the creek where we cleaned up spotless. What an awesome day! Thank you to everyone and especially thank you very much Ms Andreovski.

The clean up and Enviro week were made complete with a delicious, refreshing cycle powered smoothie maker. We thank our friends Joe and Allison at St. Kilda Park Primary School for the loan of this. A big thank you to all the students who got involved and said YES to taking action!

Calling all cyclists - come and share your thoughts on riding to school

Are you one of the 65% of students who regularly ride to Northcote High? Or are you thinking of giving it a go? If you’ve answered yes to either question, you’re invited to an online 30-min discussion on Friday 13 November at 12.40am in C1. Darebin Council’s Sustainable Transport team will be there to hear your thoughts on bike riding. They’d like to see whether there are ways we could work together to make bike riding an even better option for getting to school as we head out of lockdown. Northcote has been named by the Victorian Government as one of the likely locations for pop-up bike lanes and Council is also looking at funding new infrastructure in this area, so now is the time to have your say.  See you on Friday lunchtime 12:40 sharp!

Ecobins update

Finally thank you to all staff and students using our new ecobins correctly. Please remember that any contaminated paper such as tissues cannot go in recycling bins. We will continue to work on the responsible waste campaign.
