Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Congratulations to the many Duke of Edinburgh Award students who have worked away during the COVID-19 period to maintain their commitment to the activity requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s website has provided many great suggestions for how students can continue to progress with activities, such as volunteering while clubs, schools, organisations and businesses have been in lock-down. While DoE have allowed for some breaks, it is very important to understand that students must maintain their commitment in a modified way to avoid needing to redo areas. Mrs Manga is available to assist you with ideas Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 8:30 am, most lunchtimes, by email and by appointment. Please access the DoE updated advice (September 25, 2020) on how to maintain your involvement in the Award at:

https://dukeofed.com.au/delivering-the-award-during-the-covid-19-virus-outbreak/

The following link also contains information about temporary changes to the Award during COVID-19. There are many allowances that assist students to continue the award, ranging from practise AJ’s being shorter periods than Qualifying AJ’s, AJ’s using familiar environments as opposed to unfamiliar ones, extended age ranges to complete the Gold Award etc. These changes can be found in the document below and will be in effect from May 1, 2020 until 31 July 2021:

SPX students have had some creative methods of maintaining involvement in the Award across the school, including maintaining video logs of training sessions at home, photo diaries, in-depth research on a social issue linked to volunteering (homelessness) and even students completing online training courses. Should you need assistance with ideas on how to maintain your involvement in Volunteering, Skill or Physical Activity, please see Mrs Manga for help. You can email to request a meeting time at Kmanga@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.
