Our Student Leadership Team Investiture takes place this Thursday 29 October and on this occasion all of our new HSC students (Year 11 transitioning to Year 12) will receive their Senior tie and badge which symbolises their responsibilities and status as leaders of the College. We look forward to celebrating their ideals as leaders and prefects across the four leadership portfolios: Mission and Identity, Learning, Cultural and Wellbeing.
College Captain 2021 Liam Chang will give his inaugural address to the College and the entire Year 11 cohort will give the following Leadership Pledge to the College:
Leaders' Pledge
We the Seniors and Student Leaders of St Pius X College pledge ourselves on behalf of the student body to provide Christian leadership to the College community.
As we prepare for the journey through 2021 we pledge to be leaders of Faith and Hard Work acting with courage, care and compassion in all of our endeavours
We pledge to promote justice and solidarity, inclusion for others, liberation through education in the best traditions and values of our College.
Amen.
The event will be livestreamed to the rest of the College during Period 1 on Thursday and subsequently a link will be placed on the Portal for parents to access.
We greatly look forward to the work of our Senior Student Leaders of the College as they inspire the College and guide it throughout their tenure of leadership.
Activity Days conclude this week with Ms Fileman and Mr Barnes' class braving threatening but clearing conditions on Tuesday to visit the Cammeraygal site at Allambie Heights before paddle boarding and kayaking activities on Narrabeen Lake throughout the rest of the day. Dangerous surf conditions prevented their use of Long Reef Beach but the students’ engagement with the activities on Narrabeen Lake was superb.
Highlights of the day included the paddle boarding adventure where students including Liam Thomson and Billy Sykes led their peers in skill acquisition activities. It was great to see the improvement in all students, some of whom greatly developed in competence and confidence throughout the session.
Ms Van Riet and Mr Steinman’s class will have their Activities Day this Friday. Don’t forget to bring your recess, lunch, water bottle and wet and dry clothes for the activities.
Since Week 6 last term, students from Years 7-11 have been competing in the SPX Inter-House Table Tennis Championships, held at lunchtimes in the Gym. 7 weeks, 11 rounds and 80 players later, the competition has come to a close. Last week was the final round, with the Grand Final played on Thursday at lunchtime.
In Year 7, Nelson Elliot was victorious and in Year 8, Spencer Anderson. Nick Schuster won in Year 9, Cody Choi in Year 10 and Luke Massa in Year 11. All the boys fought hard, with many of the games lasting for over 5 minutes. Of particular note was the Year 8 game, which saw the twins, Cooper and Spencer Anderson, battling it out for first place. Congratulations to all the boys who competed, and our five champions. The winners will be presented to the College at the next available Monday Assembly.
A huge congratulations should also go to all the members of the Year 10 Student Empowerment Team, who have done an amazing job organising this competition and running each round. From refereeing to setting and packing up, the team of 30 plus boys has meant that the competition has been able to run smoothly and safely. Thanks must also go to Mr Mendez, Mr Russo, Mr Brannan and Mr Pawlak for making this competition possible.

St Pius X College acknowledges our First Nations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and particularly the Cammeraygal people,
whose interconnection with this land sustained and
fulfilled them mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually,
over thousands of years.
May we learn from their wisdom.
