From the Principal

Remember Curriculum Day is Monday 2nd November.

Curriculum Day is Monday 2nd November

Next Monday is Curriculum Day and no students are to attend school that day.

The OSHC program will not be operating due to insufficient bookings. We hope you enjoy the long weekend now that restrictions have eased.

Dress Up Day is now the 13th of November

Welcome to IPS

Students have continued to enjoy the return to onsite schooling and it has been an absolute pleasure to welcome them through the gates each morning. I'd like to thank all my staff for their dedication and compassion in the way they approach dealing with the students, some of which have required some additional encouragement to engage and resume the various routines.

We are hopeful that staggered start and finish times along with segregated areas will be phased out shortly. Likewise we hope to reintroduce the strings program (ONSITE) as soon as it is practical to do so. The advice I have received is that a COVID case at IPS  resulting in a lockdown would likely see the school closed for two weeks and that is the last thing we want. Therefore, we continue with our COVID safe plan for the time being.

Amazing Construction

When Ben T in FDL (that's right! Foundation) decided during lockdown the he was going to build one of his favourite places - IPS - his parents provided the materials and Ben went to work.

Well done Ben!

2020 Bebras Australia Challenge!

Congratulations to Callum C (6H) who received full marks in Round 2 of the Bebras Australia Computational Thinking Challenge 2020! This means he is eligible for the Bebras Honour Roll. Students placed on the Honour Roll  receive a special certificate signed by CSIRO Chief Executive Dr Larry Marshall and their name placed on the Bebras Australia website.

Year 6 Camp Week has been different from any other but...

the students and teachers have made the most of the Camp Week and having lots of fun while they learn and participate in a variety of activities that endeavour to make this week special. Some of their commentary on the week's activities include:

Diviya: I am sad we did not go to Canberra but we are very lucky to have teachers that are trying to make this week fun.

Dylan: Camp Week fun, especially the team work one where we get to collaborate with others in Grade 6.

Casey: I have really enjoying it. I appreciate what the teachers have done.

Leah B: So far so good. We have had more democratic choice.

Liam: I have really enjoyed the activities so far, my favourite was one of the games.

Veronica: It has been good, I would rather be in Canberra though.

Tic Tic

As some of you may know our resident Tawny Frogmouth pair who call Ivanhoe Primary home have been successfully raising another chick, affectionately known as Tic Tic (posing for the camera in the first photo).

He is now fledging and it is possible he may come to rest on a lower branch within the yard. Once again it's really important that children leave him be so as not to stress the family out. If children happen to come across the chick on the ground and you are made aware please leave it be and call the office. 9499 1880

Foundation Transition is still different

New families are keen to have some photos of parts of the school to help orientate their child(ren) before they can visit the school in person. Some Year 6 students were set the challenge of taking some photographs that should prove helpful. These are in the attached document below. (Thank you Year 6 - great job)

Enjoy a quick stroll through the school grounds of IPS on a sunny afternoon.

Foundation Transition Orientation Dates:

Session 2 - Thursday 12th November – 9:10-10:00am

Session 3 - Tuesday 15th December – 9:10-10:30am

Keep an eye out for more vignettes of our current students showcasing our school.

*The Evening Foundation Information/School Readiness Session where you will meet your child’s teacher on Monday 14th December at 7:00pm

(Hopefully in person but we will have to see.)

World Teachers Day is tomorow

On Friday 30th October, our school  recognises World Teachers’ Day and  celebrates the continued dedication and support our teachers provide our students.

This year World Teachers’ Day has the theme ‘Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future.’ This theme reflects the continued commitment teachers have made to their students and as education leaders, throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

While this year has been difficult for us all, World Teachers’ Day is a great way to say thank you to our teachers for their support and efforts in helping students adapt during this challenging time.

Ivanhoe Primary School will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day and you and your child(ren) can get involved by sending a message of thanks to a favourite teacher by using the hashtag #WTD2020 on social media. Or send them a note and make someone's day.

In the video below, a few notable Victorians visited their childhood schools before coronavirus (COVID-19) to meet up with their favourite teachers and share their stories on how they helped them to grow and learn.

IPS Tea Towel Keepsakes (fundraiser)

What is a Tea Towel Fundraiser? Each year level will be creating a tea towel, with every

student’s self-portrait included! Download the information and order form below.

Fairy Garden Refurbishment

Thank you to Phoebe, Sophie and Kerri for revitalising the IPS Fairy Garden over the last couple of weekends. It's really looking fabulous.

Finally

One of our Foundation students was struck by a bicycle  a few days ago. While not serious it could have resulted in serious harm. Therefore I have reminded all students not to ride their bikes down Ailsa Grove. It has long been a school rule / expectation that students would walk their bikes on the footpath. This message has been lost amid the myriad of other directions regarding pick up and drop off. Please remind your child that safety must always be a priority and pedestrians have right of way on footpaths.

Stay safe, look after each other and thank you for supporting our great school.
