Learning in J07

Ms Manning

Junior School J07 Manning is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

“He has terrible tusks and terrible claws…”

J07 have become authors!

In Year One, students have been working on the creation of their very own narrative. This has taken us many sessions and we are very proud to show you our work!

First, we used the story “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson as inspiration. We collected lots of adjectives (describing words) about the Gruffalo.

Then we got to work planning our own stories, using the Gruffalo as our story character too! This time, we chose our own settings for the story!

Next, we planned our problem and ending for our stories. There were some very creative ideas flowing!

After planning, we got busy drafting. We wrote the beginning of the story in sentences, including both the character and the setting. We wrote several sentences about the problem and the ending too!

Once our drafts were complete, we made sure that we used Rosie Red and Gary Green to edit and revise our work and make it even better.

We then took turns to use the “Author’s Chair” – this is where we read our writing out to our class and ask for feedback. J07 students have been learning to give helpful feedback on what we have heard.

As a celebration, and as part of our publishing process, we have drawn some of our Gruffalo characters! We hope you enjoy them!
