Around The School

Foundation Day

What a wonderful day we had yesterday at our annual Foundation Day ceremony. Joined by special guests and families we reflected on the path the School has taken since 2004 when a group of parents first met and wanted to start a new school in Moama.

Long term staff were celebrated with their service awards along with Craig Smith for his service to the Board for the last 12 years. He left the students with inspiring words to 'dream big', just like back in 2004, as anything could happen!

Emma Lewis (nee Perry) Class of 2011 spoke about her experience since finishing year 12, encouraging students to find their passions and not be afraid to give things a go. There's plenty of opportunities waiting after school and you don't have to be the best to make a difference, you just need to try or you'll never know.

We then had a fantastic afternoon of sports games and our annual MAG Gift!

A great way to celebrate the foundation of the school, getting alongside each other.

Safe to say... the Year 12's were the winners in the Tug-o-war against the Teachers!

Congratulations to the winners of the Foundation Day Gift:

Sophie Jardine

Phoenix

Delaney Laffy

Taj Elliott

Perricoota was the winning house of the day.

da Vinci Decathalon - Secondary

A team of MAG secondary students also competed in the da Vinci Decathalon in Wagga Wagga this week and, similarly to the primary school team, achieved outstanding results!

The secondary team placed as follows:

1st in Ideation

1st in  Engineering

3rd in Poetry & Art

3rd in Code Breaking

The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.

Science around the School

Mr Webb's Year 7 students investigated the structure of the Earth by creating an edible chocolate ball model.

Mrs Paul's Year 9 class examined the effect of the enzyme Amylase on starch.

Battle of the Bands - Deniliquin

MAG students had a great day at the Battle of the Bands in Deniliquin last Thursday 14 April. Rock band, 'Bad Grammar' took out first place on the day - congratulations to Stirling Wakefield, Digby Newman, Nate Pearce, Oscar Marshall, Will Pike and Declan Campbell.

Well done also to Amelia D'Angri (who played with Digby Newman and Nate Pearce) and a second rock band '6 Pack' whose members are all MAG students - Macklin Dalziel, Declan Millar, Blake Johns, Hesandu Ambalangodage and Levi Edmunds.

What an incredibly talented group of students! Each of them have been developing their instrumental skills with the Shane McGrath Music Academy - Shane is a extra-curricular tutor at MAG.

The event was MC'd by our very own Judie O'Rourke who did a fabulous job keeping everything focused and on track - great job, Judie!
