Primary Report
From the Primary Office
We would like to welcome all our families back to what already proves to be another exciting and busy term. A special welcome to our new students; Scarlett, Henry, Oliver, Mason, Sam, Willow, Harnaaz, Ava, Zanika, Lyla and their families as they settle into our school community. On the first day back, all Primary staff participated in a professional learning day which introduced the new NESA K-2 English and Mathematics syllabus which will be implemented in all NSW schools from 2023.
What a way to start Term 2! It was great to see the many mothers, grandmothers and significant others for a morning of Mother’s Day craft activities. The buzz around the school ground was just wonderful and we hope that all the visitors enjoyed their hot drink. A special thank you to the Senior Drumline for their great performance.
Primary Assembly
It was great to meet again at the first Primary School Assembly for this year on Friday 29 April. Congratulations to the Year 6 school leaders; Alexander Attalh, Zara Hensley and Tyler Cox, for running their first Assembly. After a beautiful performance on the piano, both Tyler Cox and Toby Kennedy received their Practice of Music Grade 2 awards. Both boys have been playing the piano with Mrs Monro at school since they were in Year 1 and they should be very proud of their efforts. For the closing music item, Willow Martin performed the piece ‘Reflection’ on the piano. Willow has been playing the piano for three years with Katie Kim here at school and whilst incredibly nervous, Willow did an amazing job. We are all very proud of our performers.
If your child is interested in our Extra-Curricular Music Program, please visit our website for more information and an enrolment application.
In addition, we celebrated those students who were awarded their Core Value Award. Core Value Awards are awarded to students who consistently display one or more of the school’s core values and motto. Congratulations to the students below. Keep up the great work!

The da Vinci Decathlon
On Tuesday 3 May, a team of 8 Year 5 and 6 students travelled to The Riverina Anglican College in Wagga Wagga to compete in the daVinci Decathlon with Mrs Rykers and Miss Briggs. The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines; Engineering, Mathematics and Chess, Code breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative producers, Cartography and Legacy.
The da Vinci Decathlon began in 2002 as an exciting offshoot of the very successful da Vinci Program for gifted and talented students at Knox Grammar in Sydney. The Decathlon is designed to celebrate the academic gifts of Australian youth by providing a stimulating and challenging competition run in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon. After a very early 5am start to the day, the team competed very well and enjoyed their day. They received the following placings from the 10 events:
1st Creative Producers - Drama
1st English
1st Cartography/Geography
1st Art and Poetry
2nd Code Breaking
3rd Science
3rd Maths
3rd Legacy/History
The team was also named the Overall Winners of the Year 6 division and will now progress to the NSW State Finals later this month. We would like to congratulate Zara Hensley, Toby Kennedy, Charlie Martin, Kokona Koreeda, Keisha Hall, Matthew Maxwell, Lyla Bassett and Cabe Ludlow on this fantastic achievement and wish them all the best as they prepare for the State Finals.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. All students in these year levels are expected to participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. NAPLAN is the measure through which governments, education authorities, schools, teachers and parents can determine whether or not young Australians have the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.
NAPLAN tests are scheduled for a two-week period, starting next week. The Year 3 Writing test is paper based the other tests are all online.
