SPECIAL VISITORS FOR NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

Mrs Rossana Hywood

To help celebrate and raise awareness for National Reconciliation Week, a group of Young Vinnies students welcomed 16 Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students from Years 4-6 at Koondoola Primary School to the College for lunch and games on Wednesday.

Students loved the opportunity to continue to form friendships with each other while sharing a fun-filled experience. There were smiles all round as the Koondoola Primary School students shared lunch overlooking the Indian Ocean before the joy of some friendly dodgeball games with some of our Young Vinnies students.

Our relationship with Koondoola Primary School has been ongoing for over 5 years and has formed some great friendships and memories during this time.

Our Year 7 Kids Food for Kids lunch program in Terms 3 and 4 is another link to this school. This program involves each Year 7 PCG making 40 lunches which are taken to Koondoola Primary School's Breakfast Club.

It was heart-warming to see the close friendships that have formed with the children and, in particular, the hugs and chatter with our Vinnies students and staff when they were saying goodbye.

Thank you to our friends from Koondoola for visiting us – we can’t wait to walk your nature trail next term.
