The grade 3 team love to spill the tea on what's going on in our cohort, read below to find out the juicy information of what our glorious students are doing at school. Miss O will be leaving us at the end of week 7 for a job with the Department. We wish her all the best in her new role and she will be severely missed.

Students participated in a Dance incursion this week, they really enjoyed it. It was also a different experience for them. See below for some quotes from the students.

“During the incursion my classmates and I had lots of fun. We did things about superhero poses and some dancing.” Chelsea 3A

“At the dance incursion we started with some stretching, we then got to dance with our friends. We all laughed and smiled and we got to have an amazing time.” Emily 3A

“It was surprisingly fun. At first I thought it would be bad but it was actually the opposite, it was really fun. We did our own superhero trailers.” Mishca 3A

“We pretended to be superheros and villains. We made slow action scenes. The dance instructor was really funny and very kind. We all had fun.” Bianca 3A

Reading:

We are so excited to begin our new study of Information Reports. During this unit we will explore various text features, discuss how our thinking has changed based on new learnings and learn to distinguish between interesting and important information. Students will synthesise non-fiction texts and develop a deeper understanding on topics that are relevant to the 'real' world. We are sure your child will come home with a wealth of facts that they are excited to share with you!

Maths:

Now that we are more than halfway through the term, students have been wrapping up Capacity and moving onto Mass! Students will learn that Mass is how much matter in an object and measure the mass of different things using informal and formal units! Students are also exploring different strategies to solve multiplication and division equations and worded problems such as equal groups, arrays, partitioned arrays and area. Check out some of the great work we are doing in grade 3!

Writing:

We have completed our unit of narrative writing where we used our imaginations to create detailed, sequenced stories. Now we get the chance to show our expertise by learning how to write information texts that contain specific vocabulary for the topic and a variety of informative text features such as subheadings, diagrams and bold words.

Check out some of our final narratives below:

Our Trip to The Melbourne Museum

On Monday the 23rd of May, the Grade 4s set off for a day of excitement and discovery at The Melbourne Museum. Here are some words from the students about the day.

On Monday the 23rd of May, we went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. We arrived at school early and had to line up for our bus. The trip took us roughly 45 minutes. We finally arrived and our first exhibition was the Forest Gallery. I loved the lizards, but my favourite part of the trip was the ‘Bugs Alive’ exhibition. I loved seeing the Grammostola Pulchra Triangular, it was awesome!

At the museum, we went to the dinosaur exhibit and saw one of the most complete fossils in the world. That being the Triceratops. We also through other exhibits and observed different birds, lizards, bugs and plants. It was really fun. After lunch we explored the bug exhibit. There were many real bugs and we learned so many facts about them. My favourite exhibition in the museum was the mini museum where we saw sculptures, the racehorse Phar Lap and a rubber hose cartoon clip.

Our favourite exhibit was about Geology. We became Geologists as we walked through examining different types of rocks. We mostly enjoyed watching a movie about volcanic eruptions in the dark cinema, some of us even tried to watch it twice. We learnt that an earthquake is usually caused by volcanic eruptions. We saw how meteors came into earth’s atmosphere and some were exploding.

On the 23rd of May, the year 4’s went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. My group went to see the dinosaurs first then we went to the Melbourne story. After that we went to the bug section. My favourite section was the bug section because the insects were very interesting and kind of creepy! There was lots to see and explore. My friends and I all had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed going to the Melbourne Museum. My favourite part was the Melbourne Story because we learnt about the history of Melbourne. I also liked it when we saw actual lungfish.

I hope we can go again!
