PREP

For the past few weeks Preps have been learning how to write letters. Students had lots of fun posting letters in the classroom letter box. They wrote letters to their buddies, their teacher and their classroom peers. Students were super excited to make their own little envelope letter boxes that their peers were able to post letters to.

As part of Education week students engaged in a story about education past and present. This opened up conversations about how schools were back in history and how they are different today. Prep students really engaged in conversations as well as listening to parents about their experiences at school. They then completed an activity Then/ Now to show their understanding of how things have changed in education throughout time.

Wednesday 25th May was Simultaneous Read Aloud – Before lunch all Prep students watched the story ‘Family Tree’. Students discussed the different animals they saw in the story, trees and how they grow as well as the different meaning of family tree and who is in their family.

Lastly on Friday 27th May students watched a clip telling the story of sorry day. Students discussed what sorry day meant, about the stolen generations and why it is important to understand what sorry day means. We also discussed why we say our acknowledgment to country every morning and why it is important to respect ‘the land, the water, the animals and the people.’

The Prep Team

Year 1

The Year 1 students have been busy writing letters to their family and friends.

They know how to start and finish their letters.

In Numeracy, we have started learning how to tell the time. This week we made clocks and talked about the duration of time. Did you know that there is a lot that you can achieve in one minute?

In the next few weeks we are going to Sovereign Hill to learn more about the past.

Year 2

This Term has really speed by and we have had a few students recovering from colds and flu. The weather is getting colder, and students really need to rug up in preparation for the Winter cold snap coming around the corner.

In reading we have been making connections with our reading through our experiences or prior knowledge. We are making connections with books and texts that we are familiar with and new texts that we have read in class. We are also making connections with the world when we read some of our texts or stories.

In writing we are going to start our Poetry writing unit. We are all excited to learn about shape poems, acrostic, haiku and various other forms of poetry.

In maths we have been doing subtraction and addition problems. We are sharing strategies and learning new ways to problem solve.
