Plant Stall for Mother's Day

Harry, Year 6 student

From Gen, Parents & Friend's Committee

Parents and carers of our NMPS students would have woken up on Sunday 8 May to receive a very green surprise after the success of our Plant Stall at school to mark Mother's Day. With over 1200 plants to choose from over three days, our students each had a chance to visit our plant stall, choose a plant they wanted to give, and then complete their own shopping (budgeting, counting out money, and collecting change - just like in a real shop).

With a focus on sustainability this year, the plants on offer ranged from flower and herb seedlings in paper cups, fairy gardens in mugs, moss-covered kokedamas and a variety of indoor plants and succulents. Every child left the stall with something special, if not a plant, then a pot and seeds so that they could give a gift and card to someone special in their lives.

The Parents and Friends Association would like to send a great big thank you to all the parents who helped out at the stall over the three days, to Tess the gardener who helped source plants, to the staff who helped their students attend the stall and all of the parents who supported the stall by sending their children to school with cash on the day. Also, a big and special thanks to Harry and Ellie Bond's family for the 140 mugs they potted that were a sell-out and really added to the charm of the event. We were also fortunate enough to receive a generous donation of $250 from Bunnings Collingwood that enabled us to purchase supplies to create many of the plantings and the fabulous kokedama. Please give them a big thanks when you next shop there.

We sold 1200 plants, Made $2800, had 25 parents help out over 3 days, and made over 750 special people in the lives of our NMPS families very happy!

All of the money raised at this event will go towards our landscaping projects on the north oval.
