Inclusion Support News - Wendy Rheinberger (Inclusion Support Teacher)

In an earlier addition of our newsletter we shared the opportunity for children to receive a hearing screener here at school through Sound Scouts Australia resources.  As the seasons change, we're all feeling the onslaught of colds.  Sometimes when a child has a cold or a runny nose, the eustachian tubes get blocked. These are the tubes that allow air into the space between the back of the nose and throat and the middle ear. With young children, the eustachian tubes are narrow and consequently don't drain well so can easily become blocked. As they get older, the tubes become wider and change angle to drain better. If the tubes remain blocked, this can result in Glue Ear and impact a child’s hearing.

A good nose blow can help to unblock the ears and help your students hear better.

Surprisingly, most young children don’t know how to blow their noses properly. With information from the Audiometry Nurses Association of Australia, Sound Scouts have put together a simple guide on:  How To Blow Your Nose.

Cultural Group News - Judy Allan (Aboriginal Education Assistant)

This term, students across K-6 have enjoyed working with Krystle & Jake from The Opportunity Hub in Tamworth.  Each week they talked about local culture, their families and what it means to them to be indigenous.  Students created dances and artwork and will share some of this during our special NAIDOC Week assembly on Thursday 21 July (Week 1, Term 3). We invite you to join with us from 11:30am as we recognise and celebrate First Nations People.
