A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

Athletics Carnival

Our school athletics carnival held last Friday was a tremendous success. Congratulations to all our students for your enthusiastic participation. It was wonderful to have the experience of  Heidi Hardaker (Diocesan Sport Coordinator) and Gary Mc Sweeney (PSSA Senior Vice President and School Sport Australia President) assisting at our carnival. Thanks to Amanda Bartholomew for her organisation of the day and to our parents who helped with the events,  collecting equipment and the canteen. Thank you to Brad Stubbs, Harry Bartholomew, Clare Lee, Rachel Coward, Michelle Cortis, Amy Teasdale, Lisa Azzopardi, Melissa Shaw, Jenni Hird and Sally Stockwell. The photos below show the students enjoying the shot put event. Full results and more photos are in the sports section of this newsletter.

End Of Term Reflection

At the end of each term I take time to reflect on the term and be grateful for the high points rather than dwelling on the challenging times. Researchers have found that gratitude is always strongly associated with greater happiness. Practising gratitude helps people feel positive emotions, enables us to relish good experiences, improve our overall health, deal with adversity and build strong relationships. It is important that we teach children to be grateful for the many good things they have in their lives. I encourage you during the holidays to have a conversation with your children about what they are grateful for.

I am grateful that we have a wonderful school community; with great students, supportive parents and dedicated staff. Thank you for your contribution to St Joey’s.

I am grateful that I witness the learning growth of each student in our care and that I enjoy and have fun teaching regularly in our school. Thank you students for your efforts to improve this term and for always making me feel welcome in your classrooms.

Kindness Corner

Congratulations to Reuben Shaw for being the student who stood out for me this week because of his kindness. Reuben always plays happily with others on the playground. In class he waits his turn, listens to his classmates and always speaks with respect to students and teachers. Thanks Reuben. We are so lucky to have you at St Joey’s!

Times Tables Challenge

Learning to correctly memorise and retrieve times tables facts helps students to multiply and divide efficiently. This is a skill which is useful in everyday life and we encourage students to put effort into learning the tables. This morning we held our school times tables challenge for our students in Years 3 - 6.

Congratulations to our winners for 2022:

Years 5-6 Champion: Archie McNamee    Years 3-4 Champion: Troy Balint

An encouragement award was also given for consistent effort to: Harold Connal and Zeb Allan. The teachers were impressed with the effort and the improvement shown by all our students.
