Grade 1/2

What a fun week we have been having in Grade 1 & 2 this week, with the Gardening Program up and running, some special events taking place and even leaving the school grounds for the first time (during learning time that is!)!

Gardening Program:

The gardening program is underway on a Friday morning. The three classes are working on a rotational basis and will enjoy some outdoor learning whilst weeding, planting and harvesting. Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers who have been or are coming in to help out; it is greatly appreciated and certainly never too late to join in!

Professor Bunsen:

On Monday, we were so excited to welcome Professor Bunsen back to our school after a two-year hiatus. With two action-packed shows (one on 'Light' and the other on 'Sound'), he wowed the children with his amazing inventions, experiments and knowledge of science. Be sure to check out your child's reflection of this incursion, on SeeSaw, to discover what they learnt, as well as their favourite part of each show.

Cross Country:

The excitement levels were high as the students went on their first 'excursion' since beginning school, albeit across the road to Warrandyte Reserve. This was the first year that the Prep-2 students were invited to the Cross Country offsite and they did an amazing job, doing two whole laps of the oval. Whilst most children were excited, others were a little nervous before their race and felt like they couldn't go on after their first lap. With the Grade 5/6 students placed around the oval, cheering them on and giving them lots of encouragement along the way, all students were able to dig deep and make it around the oval once more to complete the race and we couldn't be more proud of their efforts and achievements - way to go!! After all the age groups finished their race, the students were put into mixed-age groups to participate in some old favourites- sack race, egg & spoon race & tunnel ball just to name a few. See some photos of the event below.

Hoop Time Basketball:

Last Friday, the Grade One students had a big day of Hoop Time Basketball, run by SEDA students and Basketball Victoria. They had a super day learning new skills, drills and played mini games against each other. This week, the Grade Two students will get their turn!
