Natasha Rankin Day

Last Friday we celebrated the life of our beloved Natasha Rankin. It was amazing to see so much orange around the school to brighten our day as we remembered Miss Rankin. Orange was her favourite colour and to us it symbolises the warmth, sunshine, determination and joy that Miss Rankin brought to our lives. We were able to raise $258.75 as a school which will be donated to the RooKeepers on behalf of Tash. RooKeepers came to visit Tash in the last couple of weeks before she passed.

Maggie (who received the Miss Rankin award last year) and Mrs Eastwood spoke beautifully at assembly on Friday and a video was sent of this and played to Tash's family and friends at her memorial on Saturday. It was extremely special to hear that we were part of this day and how much Miss Rankin impacted us here at ACPS. We continue to have Miss Rankin in our thoughts and we look forward to seeing which student portrays the same values that Miss Rankin admired in students when we announce an award at the end of the year in her name.

Shoes everywhere!

Thanks again for a very successful shoe recycling drive last term. This week Andersons Creek Primary School were formally announced as the VICTORIAN WINNER with 475 pairs of shoes being donated by children, family and staff. We loved the idea of matching a school full of children who are sports mad with a sustainability opportunity. We saw firsthand through all the boxes collected what a group of children can do to help our planet. Small steps to big things! Congratulations to our fellow Victorians at Balnarring Primary School who were the national winners with 798 pairs of shoes! Go Victoria!

Wednesday 11 May - NUDE FOOD WEDNESDAY IS STARTING. Please try to bring lunch with only reusable containers each Wednesday. Nude Food is good for your health and the environment and helps keep our playground beautiful. Classes will compete against each other for the 'Rubbish free Lunch' trophy which will be awarded at Assembly each week.

The Chickens and Children's garden are growing well. If you would like to join the Chicken Care roster for a week this term please email Sarah Bailey Sarah.Bailey2@education.vic.gov.au There are clear instructions and lots of support so no experience is necessary. We also are looking for some new vegie boxes to add to our garden so let Sarah know if you have any suitable containers to donate.

SCULPTURE at The Pines

Wow! our Fish is filling up quickly!

Some soft plastics to be recycled
The beginnings of the fish... soon to be covered with recycled cling film, embellished and filled with our soft plastics

We’ve been invited to create a sculpture for World Environment Day by the Pines Shopping Centre. Our Art Teacher (Julie Clarke) and Green Thumbs Coordinator (Sarah Bailey of 2SB) are working with the Green Thumbs team, the Arts Captains and other students to create a large, see-through fish, filled with our soft recycled plastic. It will have many smaller plastic fish around it, and will highlight the importance of keeping plastic rubbish out of our waterways so our fish can live well as we all share this planet together. We will also be able to share about ACPS recycling program. The display at the Pines Shopping Centre will be ready by the beginning of June.

A big thank you to our school community for helping with our sculpture!

Thanks Julie, Sarah for your creative ideas and initiative.
