Principal Message

College Involvement. This week I congratulated the many students involved in activities outside school at the moment. It is a busy time on the co-curricular front:

  • Our netballers and and AFL players, junior and senior have progressed well to finals and we congratulate them on their success

    • Carroll Cup -Premiers
    • Junior and Senior Girls AFL- Runners Up
    • Currie Cup- Premiers
    • Junior Tracey Gundson Netball -Runners Up
    • NSW Netball Gala Day- Both 7/8 and 9/10 sides through to regional finals
       
  • Our cross country runners did well at BISSA and 
     
  • Other students are heading off to CCC trials this week
     
  • Preparations for the performing arts showcase are well under way
     
  • Our musicians and singers helped out with the mass in honour of the Presentation sisters mass last week led by Bishop Mark.

It is very encouraging to see the high level of commitment our students give to their many interests and the positive spirit in which they participate.  It is always a source of enormous satisfaction to them and us that they are able to reach the highest levels of achievement through their efforts. If they don't, they should take great satisfaction that they gave their all in trying to achieve their goal.

 

There is a great quote from the mercurial former American President Teddy Roosevelt that speaks to this point. The language has been changed to be inclusive as it should be.

 

"It is not the critic who counts; not the person who points out how the strong person stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

 

I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the many staff who have been so active with the students as coaches, sacrificing much of their own time - Mr Price, Mr Galvin, Mrs Forwood, Ms Langtry and Ms Kendall. Their generosity is something we should never take for granted. 

 

VET Awards Nominees. Congratulations to Charlotte Clark and Phoebe Hartley who have made it to the finals of  NSW Training Awards- Riverina Region 2022. The winners will be announced in Griffith on 9th June. KCC is committed to supporting the pathways for all of our students no matter what their aspirations and dreams. Every student’s pathway is equally important.

 

Vaping  continues to be a significant issue all schools are grappling with. KIldare is no different and it is even more concerning to see it appearing with younger and younger students , even as young as Year 7.- 12 - 13 Years of age. Young people don’t view them as harmful which is a very ignorant and quite frankly dangerous viewpoint. The college has a strong position against the use of vapes, the possession of vapes and selling of them within the school. Students put their place in the college at risk by engaging in this practice.

 

Can I ask you please to read again this letter we sent to you in March about the issue and support the college’s strong position against them.

This is very important data for us to assist with planning. The questions tell you what the area is with connection to our college values. It then lists topics that it relates to. What we need you to do is comment where you feel you can on any area.

Industrial Action 27th May. Please see the detailed letter you received through Compass regarding this. There will be supervision for students who need to be at school only. There will be no formal classes.
