Year 8 History Team Build Polynesian Vaka Boats

This term and late last term the Year 8 History team have been studying Polynesian Expansion.

They have been looking at the way the early voyagers used primitive yet highly advanced Vaka boats to sail the seas and traverse large distances between islands.

Students collected resources from around the school grounds to create their own Vaka using features from original designs used by the Pacific Islander Peoples.

Only allowed to use one non natural resource found, the students were able to design these beautiful and creative models. The next challenge is to see how many of them float.
