JOIN US FOR PLASTIC FREE JULY

Hi Ripper Families,

This July, Ripponlea PS is taking part in Plastic Free July, and we hope that you all can get involved!

Plastic Free July is all about starting the journey of reducing single use plastic consumption your way. For ideas on how to do this go to the Plastic Free July website.

As a school, during the month of July (and beyond) we are aiming for nude lunches, starting the journey to a single use plastic free Snack Shack and committing to reducing plastics at our school including at our events.

We are getting our students involved in ways we can reduce plastic at school and home and learning about the impact littered plastics can have on our animals and nature. And of course, the Sustainability Leaders and the committee will help support you all on this journey.

If you’re feeling game, why not sign up for the Plastic Free July challenge?

Watch this space, we will have more information and resources in the coming weeks.

RPS SUSTAINABILITY GARDEN BEAN SALE

Thank you again Ripper Families for your support!

By selling our beans & radishes from our Productive Garden, along with some yummy cupcakes and fruit, we were able to raise $200! We are busily saving for a lovely Indigenous Garden, so your support is much appreciated.

Please look out for the next sale!

COMPOSTING AT RIPPONLEA PRIMARY

Why should we compost?

Being a Resource Smart School, composting is just one way Ripponlea Primary can reduce waste going into landfill.

The end-goal is to make composting a daily ritual, which becomes second nature to students.

THE PLAN

1. With the help of Eli (Biliana’s dad), we will be running a Composting Pilot Test for three weeks -

Mon 6, Mon 13 and Mon 20 June; and (hopefully!) launch composting in Term 3

2. The goal is to make this as easy and simple as possible for both teachers and students.

Each class will need -

  • A Caddy Monitor
  • 2 caddy bins - one for compost foods and one for green bin foods
  • Instructions for what food goes into the COMPOST CADDY and what food goes in the GREEN BINS CADDY. These will be stuck on the wall near the caddies. Please note we will not laminate the instructions until we have successfully completed the pilot test, as there may be tweaks to make; we would like to reduce plastic lamination where possible!
  • Caddy Monitors will be given instructions. Please note: drying of the caddies will be ironed out during the pilot test

Please reach out to either Bridget Hast (0405 147 410) or Eli Greig (0402 937 208) if you have any queries or feedback.

Thank you so much for your support.

                                                                        Thank you!
