Soccer Incursion

This week the Grade 3-6 students began their Soccer Incursion by Football Australia during P.E lessons. Students worked hard to learn the fundamentals of Soccer and participated in a number of activities to improve their skills. Towards the end of the lesson students enjoyed participating in a modified soccer game called ‘Numbered Soccer’ where they were able to test out their newly learnt skills. The 3-6 students will have another incursion next week during P.E lessons to learn more skills and strategies from the Football Australia coach.

Active Club

What a fun Wednesday morning we had last week! Another amazing turn out from our students. We also had two parents running laps on their own and with their children which was amazing to see! We had a total of 67 students participate. Well done to Grade 3 once again for having the most student attendees in Week 4! A big well done also to the District Cross Country students attending and training for their running event coming up. Please encourage your kids to come along and run/walk/skip around the ovals! You can even join in too, it’s a lot of fun! 😊

School Swimming

Below you can read about what each year level completed during their Swimming Week at Kilsyth Centenary Pool. Well done to all our students on all their hard work and enthusiasm! A big thank you to Miss Stait, Mr North, Miss Swaine, Miss Gam and Miss Hansen for giving us an insight into what our students got up to.

Prep: The Preps enjoyed a fantastic week of swimming at Kilsyth Centenary Pool. They were all very brave and all children who attended were in the water participating in each of their lessons. During their lessons, the Preps participated in in multiple activities such as “Rocket Arm” swims and “Monkey Pool” climbs that helped them learn water safety skills. Some of the focus skills practised were getting in and out of water safely, doing star floats on their backs and making sure to blow bubbles under water whilst swimming to stop water getting in their nose and mouth. We are so proud of how courageous all the Preps were for their first swimming week. Also, a big thank you to all the amazing parent helpers. Well done, Preps!

Grade 1: The Grade One students have enjoyed a wonderful week of swimming at Kilsyth Centenary Pool. They have developed their water skills, water safety knowledge and confidence in the water. Some the skills learnt included, safe entry to water, floating, stroke development, and diving for sinkies. One of the many highlights for the students was going on the bus every day with their friends, and wearing their Pjs in the pool. It has been rewarding to watch the students develop independence and organisation throughout the week. A huge congratulations to our Year 1 students!

Grade 2: A huge well done to all the Grade 2’s on a fantastic week at swimming. Each day, the students were able to participate in lots of fun water activities including swimming with pool noodles, learning to swim using different strokes, jumping into the water, and diving to collect various objects out of the water. They LOVED being able to dress in their old pyjamas/clothes to practise water safety. Well done everyone!

Grade 3: Throughout this week, the Grade 3 students have been giving all their energy to the Swimming Program. They each learnt various skills in the water such as kicking, floating, breathing, various strokes, ways to move smoothly in the water and so on. They also found it helpful to learn how to be safe in the water and call for help if there is any danger. The Grade 3’s have demonstrated great persistence in getting through another busy week, you should all be very proud of your efforts.

Grade 4: This week, the Grade 4’s have been completing swimming at the Kilsyth Centenary Pool. The students have completed a wide variety of skills such as freestyle, backstroke, safe entrance into and exiting the water, floating and diving. They have been learning about how to push off the wall using their ‘torpedoes’ to glide across the water, as well as going deeper below the surface. When asked what they loved from this week, the common response was cannonballing and pin dropping at the end of the lesson, floating on their tummies, and diving to get the ‘sinkies’.
