Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall-amazing effort

Saturday was a lovely day to be out and about, and our school looked amazing for Election Day. Our cake stall and sausage sizzle were hugely successful raising a total of $3034! Thank you to each and everyone of you for your hard work in making hundreds of cakes, biscuits, jams and chutneys for our stall. Special gratitude to the parents who manned the stalls, your energy and contribution being invaluable on the day. A big thank you, also, to our wider community for enjoying a delicious sausage and a treat from our cake stall while they waited to cast their vote.

Swimming

Over the last two weeks we had our students from Prep to Year 4 attend swimming lessons at the Kilsyth swimming Pool.  Thank you to staff and parents who supported our students, it was extremely successful. It was great that we were able to subsidise swimming this year, I know the kids enjoyed themselves.

Hosting Student Voice Professional Development

It was a pleasure to host the Knox Network Schools last week for the Student Voice Professional Development session. BHPS have continued to be part of this group for the 2nd year running, giving three of our staff the ability to bring back to our staff ideas, structures, strategic planning and curriculum knowledge around this important inclusion into our school. This year is the final year of our four year strategic plan of which student voice was a major area for focus.  We look forward to our school review in 2023 where we can share with our students and families the review process and build on our next four-year plan.

Book Fair

Thank you to our community who joined with their children in choosing some lovely books from our book fair over the past two weeks.  Because of your generosity Leanne Bentley, our librarian, was able to choose around $2000.00 dollars worth of books for the library that the students had a voice in choosing.

Education Week Celebrations

It was with great pride and pleasure that we opened up our school for Education Week on Tuesday. It was fabulous to see our community back in our school enjoying the opportunity to view all the student's amazing artwork displayed around the school, discussing and sharing work with your child and teachers, enjoying our wonderfully talented musicians buskering around the school and watching the amazing talents of our students in performances in the gym.  It was also great to welcome into the school prospective families looking to enrol their children into the school for 2023 and having the opportunity to talk to leadership, specialist teachers and Prep teachers.

Our morning session gave families and special friends the opportunity to see our great school, share work and have a special morning tea with their student.  The whole school shared in a multi-aged art activity that was shared on the night in all classrooms.  Thank you to all of our staff and students for their contribution to the wonderful day and night activities.

Art Show

What a treat we all had experiencing a whole school art show through corridors and classrooms and not to mention the light show of the planets in the art room.  We are so blessed to have amazing specialist programs in the school and certainly our students art work took pride of place in the school on Tuesday.  A huge thank you to Tara for her huge effort with the displays and the also a big thank you to all the parents that helped in the display of the students work.  Just a reminder that if you missed the opportunity to have your students artwork placed on an apron, tea towel, diary, playing cards etc please refer to the Hubster’s page in this newsletter for the link to place your order by Tuesday 7 June.

Artist for Year 5 Incursion

It was a pleasure to invite Andrea McLaughlin back to our school. Andrea is a Victorian artist who works very closely with Tara Henstock to plan a fabulous 4-session art collaboration with a real-life artist to learn skills and techniques around painting animals.  On Thursday morning it was inspiring to view the enjoyment and focus that our Year 5 students working with Andrea and Tara displayed. Our students were thirsty for knowledge and to make their piece as good as they could make it. This incursion has run for the past 5 years with huge success.  We look forward to displaying their masterpieces around our school.

Continuous Reports

Continuous Reports will go live at 4pm on Friday.  Please make sure you read the report with your child and celebrate their achievements.

Parking in Montana Avenue

The residents of Montana Avenue have contacted me again pleading with the school community to park respectfully in the street and not in or across their driveways. We all need to lawfully park and work together in making the street accessible to all.  Please do the right thing by everyone.

Take care and enjoy the weekend.
